Blanco rescinds Nagin evacuation order - my title
9/7/05 | me

Governor Blanco just said on Fox News Channel that Mayor Nagin does not have the authority to order evacuation of New Orleans, that the authority rests with her....and she doesn't have evidence that it is unsafe!

Okay, that's it. I demand an investigation of the Louisiana State government and its reaction to this crisis -including the whole blasted Landrieu machine.

Is this woman perhaps the most inept governor in all of the 50 states? Ever?

Kathleen Blanco is campaigning hard for the nomination of Most Inept Governor of All Time.

I take it Nagin and Blanco are not the best of friends. Blanco has no evidence that New Orleans is unsafe. That's the topper - best one I've heard yet.

Put this with your smoking gun file:

Katrina: Louisiana Failed to Use Emergency

I don’t know about the rest of the people in this country, but I am tired of hearing everyone blame ONLY Bush and not give the fault to Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin. According to the following portion in the “New Orleans Emergency” handbook, Ray Nagin is responsible for requesting federal help in the event of a “city-wide disaster”. The reason why it took President “so long” to respond is because Nagin and Blanco refused to call for the help of the federal government until they realized they made an awful mistake. I don’t know why they waited for long but I assume because they wanted to take all of the pride if they solved the problem on their own.

This video explains the events leading up to Nagin calling for mandatory evacuations

Now is not the time for a power struggle. This demonstrates the incompetence of LA gov. Blanco. People are dying from disease from the toxic gumbo. Lead, Follow, or get the hell out of the way.

"Didn't Landrieu say earlier today that none of the relief money should go to FEMA, but should just go directly to Louisiana state officials?"

Don't know, but a lot of the positioning to date has been over control of future money.

Like an old Los Angeles criminal, Rodney King use to say" Can't we just all get along. This where the investigation needs to begin.

Judge Napolitano did say that neither the Governor nor the Mayor have the authority to remove someone from their home without an arrest warrant.

He said they could be picked up on public property. He also said Nagin could order it but it wouldn't be legal, and he wouldnt know what type of case that would involve in four years down the road, since he couldn't find legal precedence.

I'm seeing what appears to be a bunch of nanny state liberals on these threads.

I fear it is worse than that Pirogue Captain. It appears most on this thread complete ignore the U.S. Constitution. They think of themselves as Americans completely forgetting that they are State Citizens first. This kind of philosophy negates our Republican form of Government and can only lead to a dictatorship. Governor Blanco is responsible to the citizens of Louisiana ...only they can fire her. She has obligation to explain her actions to the Federal Government or any other citizen of any other state.

I know what you mean.... It's a sad state of affairs...

"Truly, I'm coming to grudgingly admire Nagin for not strangling this seriously demented woman."

I'm actually starting to cut Nagin some slack. Cleary the obstacle is "Governor" Blanco. She is so wound up with appearing "in control", first with clearly denying any recommendation from any Republican (President Bush recommending an immediate evacuation early on), to undercutting anyone who takes any initiative while she waffles to the next photo op (Jabbar Gibson had better stay in Texas, at least until Louisiana gets a new governor). Blanco is going beyond partisan pettiness, she is going against everyone else just to push her way, even if it leads to further disaster.

I saw that! Hilarious! She basically said the Mayor is full of you-know-what and she is in charge of determining who will be forced out and who will get to stay. Ha!

No kidding......and I don't think a mere shunt would do the trick in her case....more like the levee repair would be needed to stave off the spinal/cerebral fluid massed in that dullard
's sorry excuse for a brain.
