Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 11:38 p.m. EDT Mayor Nagin: Gov. Blanco Delayed Rescue
After days of blaming the federal officials for not responding quickly enough to the Hurricane Katrina crisis, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin praised President Bush on Monday - and charged that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco had delayed federal rescue efforts by 24-hours.
"I'm so happy that the president came down here," Nagin said of Bush's Friday visit to Louisiana in an interview with CNN. "He came down and saw it, and he put a general on the field. His name is General Honore. And when he hit the field, we started to see action."
But Nagin had harsh words for his state's leaders, telling CNN: "What the state was doing, I don't frigging know. But I tell you, I am pissed. It wasn't adequate." The New Orleans Democrat said he urged Bush to meet privately with Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco during the visit. The meeting took place aboard Air Force One, he said.
After reviewing the crisis with Gov. Blanco, Bush summoned Nagin for a private chat - where, according to Nagin, Bush explained: "Mr. Mayor, I offered two options to the governor. I said . . . I was ready to move today. The governor said she needed 24 hours to make a decision."
Reacting to the governor's footdragging, Nagin lamented: "It would have been great if we could of left Air Force One, walked outside, and told the world that we had this all worked out."
"It didn't happen, and more people died."
The friggin' worm is turning on someone else...
There were not just "200 buses". There were 200 buses in just one photo and Freepers studying the post-Katrina satellite images have counted over 400 buses altogether at other city parking.
At 70 people per bus that is 28,000 people per round trip that could have been taken out of the storm surge area in the 48 hours prior the Katrina striking.
After the storm hit, what makes you think that buses sent from outside of New Orleans could drive through the flooded mess any better than the 145 New Orleans city buses that were parked 1.2 miles away from the Superdome?
Was Scotty supposed to beam the outside buses to the Superdome and them beam them back out so that they would not have to drive through impassable roads?
The time to evacuate those 200,000 low-income people on public buses OUT OF THE STORM SURGE ZONE was BEFORE the Category 4 storm struck.
That was what the Southern Louisiana Evacuation Plan for New Orleans specifically called for.
The Democrat Governor and the Democrat Mayor did NOTHING to carry out that portion of the plan. They left 200,000 low-income resident abandoned and they now blame the Federal Government for not having Scotty beam down a massive logistics effort after a human disaster of their own making.
I'd really like someone to tell me one productive thing that the Governor of Louisiana did before, during or after this whole catastrophe. She seems to have been completely useless.
What the heck happened on that helicopter?:')
I wonder what the DUmmies think of Mayor Nagin now?
I think it's funny! Bush does it again! LOL
That's for sure! Lt. General Honore is kickin' ass and takin' names!
Something tells me you are not going to see this quote in the MSM come tomorrow.
This guy is a real piece of work.
This certified nitwit has no apparent knowledge of nature. And nature can be very cruel.
So the CIA didn't get him after all?
The mayor, or mare, soon to star in "Dude, Where's My City?"
Add the 24 hour delay of the Governor to the 48 hour delay of the Mayor and you've got about 72 hours wasted, that could have been used bussing people out of NOLA and/or stockpiling water, food, Johnny-on-the-Spots, and police/firemen at the Super Dome.
They always eat their own.
.
Ray...if New Orleans survives this goatscrew, it will be in spite of your and your colleagues' best efforts to kill it. A pox on you all.
"What the heck happened on that helicopter?:')"
That, my friend, was a good ole fashioned trip to the woodshed where I'm sure W reminded Nagin of his own lackluster performance in his own responsibilities.
"She seems to have been completely useless."
If only she'd been useless! She was far more dangerous than useless. She was counterproductive. She was an obstacle. She created problems. Better she'd have stepped aside, or designated someone with intelligence and/or experience to handle the sitution.
