Here is my buddy Homer, found homeless in front of the market next door last Christmas Eve. We have no idea where he came from, what he had been through, or how long he had been wandering. And there is no way HairOfTheDog and I would ever leave him or Gidget behind. We all go together, or none of us go.
The following do tremendous work helping pets after disasters and any contribution helps.
Most of them have mobile veterinary clinics either already on site or are awaiting permission to go in. Some have tractor trailers with veterinary surgical facilities aboard.

I don't know if I would leave my Dogs. I know it's crazy...but my job when I brought them into my home was to love, care and protect them. I would have to find some other way. Of course, I would have done it before it got to this point, but my heart goes out to these people.
Get a grip. Millions of animals die in the wild every day. We just don't know about them because they happen out of our sight.
Are you sorry for the rats who drowned? For the roaches that are now dead or homeless? Why are they less important than dogs and cats?
My sister's family has fled two hurricanes in the past year. They took their dog. They left their six horses to fend for themselves. When they came back, the horses were still there - a little hungry but otherwise unharmed.
Did they care about their horses less than their dog? No. I think they realized where they had to draw the line about what they could take with them in order to flee.
If you want to stay where there's no food, no water and no power for the sake of your pet, that's fine. Just don't whine about the mean old rescuers who won't let you tie up their resources for a dog when there are other humans who still need to be rescued.

Columbus is a great city. Athough the events of the last week puts it all in perspective, life goes on.
And as life goes on, tickets to this weeks Ohio State game are still very difficult to come by. That said, but my daughter is still working very hard to get two extra ones for someone Mom asked her to, someone who is serving our country. She's putting that before requests from her relatives and friends.

Well, that is what some people feel for their pets. Like I said earlier, I would die before I would allow my cat to die.
It isn't the same as a bunch of horses -- a cat or dog can't really fend for themselves -- they are somewhere between 5 and 12 lbs. Not the same as horses.
Comparing a pet to a bug is disengenuous and downright mean.
So either you are a mean person or... actually it looks like you are just a mean person.

I agree, I have had many dear pets over the years. I cried my heart out when they died, and, being a country gal, had to bury some of them myself.
That said, I would never choose the lives of ANY of the pets I've had over the years......Calvin, my devoted Lab, GiGi, my poodle, Floyd and Katie, my sweet and loving cats, or Laddie my Collie, over a decent human life.
