Newsreaders on FoxNews just said a 'Senior administration spokesman' has said Bush plans to nominate Roberts for Chief Justice position.

So, only 5 have been "elevated".
I hope you're right.
No Way.
Scalia deserved to be the Chief Justice and I am sure was itching to be nominated. If Scalia were to resign, I would not be surprised.
President Bush continues on his path of appeasement with the RATs.
What a sad commentary on the state of conservatism that President Bush did not have the fight in him for three hearings with the RATs (Roberts, new Justice #2, and Chief Justice (Scalia). President Bush felt he had only the fight in him for two hearings in stead of three.
Sad. Tragic. Outrageous.
O'Connor is gone. Retired and gone.
Thanks. Whoever claimed Republicans or conservatives marched in lockstep hasn't seen Free Republic.
The face of Karl Rove came to my mind the way Sen Inhofe was chuckling and enjoying every minute of it as he described Judge Robert. He described how focused the WH had been from day one on who they were going to nominate and how much research had been put into everything. The last year, in particular, they were vetting people.
It was his chuckle and twinkle in his eye that reminded me of Rove.
The Admin has released what nearly 100,000 pages of documentation on Roberts... Why is everyone saying they don't know that much about him?
It didn't happen as far as I know. She agreed to stay until her replacement takes over. There isn't one nominated to take her place now that Roberts is the nominee for CJ. She will be around till she is replaced. If she had changed her mind and retired immediately it would have been all over the news.
Maybe they have not done their homework.
Bingo! Would bet this was planned from the get go and why Sandra Day O'Connor immediately came out and said she wasn't leaving the Court until her successor had been named. This means we will have a full court until O'Connor's replacement is confirmed.
I will bet that Justice Renquist had a huge role in this since they have vetted Judge Roberts and others for over a year.
ha ha ha, so true
Well that's their fault. The docs have been out there for months.
Well, that's fine but he still needs to nominate one more judge....
Justice Ann Coulter?
When you and the rest of the complainers about Scalia not being elevated become President then you can do whatever you want.
Well, some of these folks march in some kind of lockstep, but it sure isn't with the rest of us conservatives here on THIS planet! ;)
I do love it -- clueless remain clueless!
You are wrong -- O'Connor is staying until her replacement is confirmed.
Yep. That's what I think.
Neither Bush nor Rehnquist deal with things 'on the fly.' They are/were both strong leaders. They worked together on this plan..........I'd take that to the bank.
(LOL! I still can see Rehnquist answering that press guy by saying, "That's for me to know, and you to find out." God bless this man's memory, and God be with his family. He was a gem!)
Ah. Got it. Thanks.
I do give a LOT of credibility to what Jim I. says. There may be legitimate criticisms of the man floating around out there, but that he is a squisy moderate is NOT one of them!
:)
