Nagin said slow response cost lives (Mayor Nagin slams Gov. Blanco)
New Orleans Times-Picayune (excerpt) ^ | September 4, 2005

Frustrated and grieving, Mayor Ray Nagin on Sunday again ripped the painfully slow response of state and federal authorities to the plight of tens of thousands of stranded New Orleanians in the days following Hurricane Katrina, saying their inaction cost lives and caused needless misery.

Nagin singled out Gov. Kathleen Blanco for criticism, saying that the governor had asked for 24 hours to think over a decision when time was a luxury that no one, especially refugees, had.

“When the president and the governor got here, I said, 'Mr. President, Madame Governor, you two have to get in synch. If you don't, more people are going to die.”

Blanco and Bush met privately at his insistence, Nagin said, after which Bush came out and told Nagin that he had given Blanco two options, and she requested a full day to decide.

“It would have been great if we could have walked off Air Force One and told the world we had it all worked out,” Nagin said. “It didn't happen, and more people died.”

This is further evidence that the governor of the state is in charge of the response, not the president.

If I was one of those conspiratorial type individuals, and I took a look back across everything that happened, its almost as if they were going to use this natural disaster, and lull Bush into a slow response. Then hit him with the nasty press coverage we saw later in the week. Thank goodness I am not one of those conspiratorial types.

That exact thought came to me tonight...and I ask God to confirm that by someone when I signed on to FR, if that was what really happened.

Thank you...I am convinced now that you are absolutely correct.

I am convinced now that you are absolutely correct.

Actually, the sinister aspect of the whole thing actually makes me hope its just tinfoil. The cabal was ruthless, yes. It was evil, no doubt. It was criminal, by the very definition of the word. But perhaps the one shred of hope is that after all, the Mayor did tell them to bring 4 to 5 days of food and water. Unfortunately, the mayor did not realize that most of his constituents did not have that much food and they could not carry that much water. The worse part of all this may be that the people who really needed instant rescue, were those who were drowning as they clung to the branches of tress in Mississippi.

Some have said that the Prez tried to take federal control on the 26th. I know the Wash Post had mentioned the incident, but I but I don't know if they gave that date. Can someone clarify? I thought it occured on the following Friday, after the hurricane.

Your question:

"Has the Mayor even been to his city yet?"

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

On CNN Nuevo-Orleans Mayor Nadin said "Today I flew over the city and saw the damage...."

"WE are starting to get things done....."

("WE"? Like pulling all of the NOPD off duty after 1/3 deserted and only 1 week - and making plans to send the NOPD to Las Vegas to party for 3-4 days so they can recover?)

- See my previous post #90 on this thread

- Today I added the helicopter for Mayor Nagin to my graphic:

The Mayor was just canonized by Oprah. A whole lot of head shaking and tongue clucking was going on. She should hire him to run Harpo Inc. if she thinks he did such a great job.
I had to turn it off, the gagging was bothering my throat.

After watching this whole sordid affair and the ommission of leadership, I have to ask:

Did the Governor and Mayor violate any laws by not enacting the states evacuation plan?

I heard a novel excuse for why Nagin didn't use the city busses.....it was Sunday. The busses don't run on Sundays!

Why he didn't use them on Tues., Wed., Thurs., Fri. hasn't been thought up yet.
