Nagin said slow response cost lives (Mayor Nagin slams Gov. Blanco)
New Orleans Times-Picayune (excerpt) ^ | September 4, 2005

Posted on 09/05/2005 12:14:06 AM PDT by HAL9000

Frustrated and grieving, Mayor Ray Nagin on Sunday again ripped the painfully slow response of state and federal authorities to the plight of tens of thousands of stranded New Orleanians in the days following Hurricane Katrina, saying their inaction cost lives and caused needless misery.

Nagin singled out Gov. Kathleen Blanco for criticism, saying that the governor had asked for 24 hours to think over a decision when time was a luxury that no one, especially refugees, had.

“When the president and the governor got here, I said, 'Mr. President, Madame Governor, you two have to get in synch. If you don't, more people are going to die.”

Blanco and Bush met privately at his insistence, Nagin said, after which Bush came out and told Nagin that he had given Blanco two options, and she requested a full day to decide.

“It would have been great if we could have walked off Air Force One and told the world we had it all worked out,” Nagin said. “It didn't happen, and more people died.”

Those are the 145 city transit buses which were forgotten, 1.2 miles from the Superdome.

I just can't forget and "move on" when it comes to the failure to evacuate those people out of the Superdome. In the N.O. disaster plan, it was designed to be a "staging area," and once the evacuation routes closed, a "refuge of last resort." Instead, people waited in line all day to get in the dome instead of sitting on buses, being transported to shelters. I was looking at a recent satellite photo of the downtown area and noticed what look like buses or trucks within a block of the Superdome.

Will someone please tell me these aren't buses or trucks that could have been used to evacuate those people?! (Click on photos)

First, here's an old photo from Google Earth of the vehicles in question:

And finally, here's the same area from a photo taken on 9-3-05:

Great job by everyone.

We need someone like meekonegop to save the digital codes to reproduce these pictures. Even if we save the links on this server and others, they can disappear.

I don't know how to do this.

Some email systems will copy the photos and then the sender can email themselves and others to save the pictures. My system will not do that.

Travis, where did you get those pictures? I've been blogging about the inexcusable failures of Nagin and Police Chief Eddie Compass. I'd like to post those pictures, but I want to give credit where it's due.

Question: How long has Nagin been on office?

Blame anyone but yourself, Ray. Why is a fleet of over 200 buses sitting in floodwater up to the grille when they could've taken tens of thousands of New Orleanians to safety?

Exactly. I guess Mayor Bling-Bling is too busy pointing fingers to accept any responsibility for his gross failure. This guy needs a swift kick.

The mayor and govenor will try and cover their ass until the cows or the citizens of New Orleans come home. They should both be recalled or impeached..

[ You cannot tell me that all those people did NOT have cars. The ones they show under water belonged to someone and they had PLENTY of advance notice to get out. ]

The Looters could have LOOTED a car.. truck, bus, or murdercyle.. and since a fair part the people left in the city were looting, many maybe MOST victimized THEMSELVES...

New Orleans->> Looters paradise!, Parasite City!, Mardi Gras play UNMASKED!, and with all the dead in the water..

What if the exact same circumstances were to apply to say, Salt Lake City. How would their residents have behaved. Hmmm?

Hmmmm....well, based on recent activities by the SLC mayor, I would have to assume he would first organize an anti-Bush protest of a couple hundred people while the rest of the population got the 'ell out of Dodge.

WOW! Buses and fuel 1.2 miles away from the Dome.

Thanks for this information because the gas/diesel generator at the dome ran out of fuel on the 2nd day. Retrieving gas/diesel fuel from those buses and cars may have been difficult but possible to keep the generator running at the dome.

You have a small city with 25,000 people under NuttyNaginsDome with no facility management engineers on site. Keeping fuel in the generator should have been a priority.

Of course protecting your tribe from assault, murder, thieves and gang-bang rapist could be a small set back from advancing civilization in NuttyNaginsDome.

The Dome is a fine example of the MSM, public education, multiculturalism, political correctness, double speaking CYA politicians, lawyers, corrupt judges, greed and bureaucrats killing the good old USA.

_____________

Rape threat to our women.

AUSTRALIAN survivors of Hurricane Katrina told last night of their dramatic escape from New Orleans and the unfolding civil disaster in city.

John McNeil, 20, of Brisbane, said the worst point had come after two days when soldiers had told them the power in the dome was failing and there was only 10 minutes worth of gas left.

Maybe Blanco will threaten to punch Nagin out. Naw, this is Nawlins under water. Sludge-wrestling seems more appropriate. :-)

The demonRATs are playing this situation with the help of their MSM enablers (the propaganda arm of the DNC) in the hopes of tarring the president.

Not just tarring. If Bush had not responded quickly like he did (declaring these states a disaster area before the storm even hit) they would have impeached him over it. In addition to that, the violence and rioting could have spread to other cities if the MSM would have continued its promotion of race war.

The former Clinton crony is James Witt, former head of FEMA, who coincidentally just made a cool half million not too long ago when he helped Louisiana and/or NO with their evacuation plans. Sounds like he's being brought in again to cover up any tracks...

Well the unified "Just Blame Bush" approach is now apparently in tatters so now they are turning on each other.

I guess we can infer that Blanco is at least smart enough to figure out that she can get farther blaming Nagin and that Nagin does not want to be *ahem* thrown under the bus *ahem* all by himself. Or at least that Nagin believes that to be the case.
