PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush attended church this morning before visiting the Red Cross Headquarters in Washington. The President also made a statement about the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Mr. Chief Justice Rehnquist spent more than 50 years of service to the nation, 33 of which were at the Supreme Court. During his tenure, William Rehnquist was among the most influential Chief Justices in history. His death creates a rare double opening on the U.S. Supreme Court, giving President Bush the chance to make a significant mark on the federal judiciary.
The President will tour the Gulf Coast disaster area again tomorrow to personally assess progress.
Fox reporter asked the Mayor of Baton Rouge about a "big visitor" tomorrow. The Mayor says...yes, John Travolta is coming.....reporter says......no, BIG visitor.....Mayor says....oh, yes..laughing....Oprah is coming....
Reporter finally says....President Bush is coming. Mayor, oh yes, the President is coming. Reporter asks what will President see/do....Mr. Mayor says, he'll see/talk about the coordination....or lack of coordination (he remembered Party line....it's Bush's fault!)
We are in a sad state. Of course, I emailed the Mayor some info about how the Governor has authority to evacuate people...etc. I suggested when Kathleen Blanco visits him, he should discuss coordination with her.
I NEED TO STOP WATCHING TV !
Beautiful! That brings tears to my eyes.
Well let's roll with the adjectives...:). How about he is ignorant, self-serving, incompetent, moronic, low-life, foolish, inane, etc. Thanks for emailing him. Now if he can just read. :) Sorry, I'm not usually this mean but if I could I would just love to kick or slap this man. Yep, we probably should just turn the t.v. off.
I was reading an article written by a wonderful priest, who knew Pope John Paul II, and was giving his version of the greatness and holiness of this man .. most especially evidenced by his unwavering close relationship with and deep love for God.
The words he used to describe his committed life, through ups and downs, criticisms and acclaim alike were "heroic virtue."
I know he's not a holy man, but President Bush is certainly exemplifying those words to me. Through the most vile attacks and relentless coarseness and vitriol, he's able to find the necessary clarity and wisdom in times of great stress like this to efficiently function, maintain his decency and goodness .. and miraculously doesn't give in to anger and pettiness.
There's no doubt that he's walking this path with the grace and mercy of Our Dear Lord right by his side. He is guided by his faith. May God continue to bless him abundantly with whatever he'll need . . for tomorrow and the days ahead.
...if he can read....LOL!
Emily, I'm becoming mean too, but, think we have to stand up to the libs. If you're nice or polite to them, they see it as weakness, and they stomp even harder.
But, we're not as mean as they are....I wanted to say Mr.Mayor, perhaps part of the problem is that the Officials of Louisiana think that John Travolta or Oprah are more significant than the President of the United States. When you're in charge of a City or a State, you should be and act like a grown up!
Surely you realize the President cannot replace Governors, Mayors and Senators.
As for Bob Schieffer, I assure you he was not asking Chertoff if Nagin needed to be removed. He was asking if Mike Brown of FEMA, and whoever else is involved, like his Deputy for instance, shouldn't be replaced.
He was talking about anyone in the Bush Administration upon whom he could lay blame, not anyone at the state or local level.
It's illegal to threaten bodily harm to the President - I hope she gets a phone call or better yet - a very public visit by the Secret Service!
But .. what were we expecting: Standard Liberal Operating Procedure = SLOP
Very good rant! Exactly right-on...wish I had said it first! :o)
Hi, Jonny. I've been battling a cold all week. It's pretty much gone except for a nagging cough. But between it and the catastrophe, and doing what little I could to battle MSM lies, I was pretty wrung out. So I left the thread early. Am back now (9:25pm Pacific) just to check on my pings.
Can you believe Celine Dion! Sheesh! Last I looked, she's not even an American citizen. But you're right. She's as stupid as she is shallow. She can't wrap those two brain cells of hers around the notion that it took many months to prepare for the Iraq invasion. And that all the while, Saddam had every chance to capitulate to our demands.
You should have seen her. Wiping away her tears while raging about how terrible the President is. Barf!
The entertainment industry slime are out in force lately. Pierce Brosnan (is he an American citizen?) ranted about how terrible the President's environmental policies are. He did so over in Europe somewhere.
Then, of course, there's that disgraceful rap thug, Kanye West.
I'm not a hater by nature, Jonny. But these people are pushing me to it.
I have no words to express to either of how welcome your words of thanks and encouragement are to me. I'm grateful to everyone who takes a moment to say thanks -- not because I need the thanks, but because I so appreciate their kindness.
As for me, I see it as a duty to help support this President in any small way I can. I've been volunteering for him since 1999, shortly after he announced his candidacy. He'll never know it, but I intend to stay with him every step of the way.
We are!..GO NAVY!
My brother finally got in touch with his next door neighbor in Slidell. The reason she was in her home at the time of the storm was because they blocked off the interstate and she and her family had to go back home. I guess they got a late start to evacuate. She said they had 3 feet of water surging through their house during the storm and afterwards, very scary. They got to Shrevesport and safety afterwards. He lived on Timbers Drive.
Did you see that Sri Lanka pledged $25,000 to our Red Cross? That got me, big time. Their president said they know what it's like to suffer from a natural disaster.
I keep remembering Jesus' comment about the widow who put her two mites into the treasury, and how the Lord counted that as more than everyone else gave.
Luke 21:4 "For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury [extreme want or poverty; destitution] has cast in all the living that she had."
Apology for the duplicate post. I'm using my laptop today and sometimes if I just breathe over it, it does things by itself.
Congratulations for your brother.
I certainly appreciate your work, Wolfstar. As I wrote earlier this evening, this daily thread helps me a lot. Also,I admire your writing.
