Per AP on the FOX News Channel
NEW ORLEANS - Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six of them, a deputy chief said.
Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said the shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which connects Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.
He said he had no other details.
I just heard the same thing on Fox NEWS..

They are saying that the AP is reporting the people that were shot are from the Amry Corps of Engineer
Yeah - Army Corp does the engineering and supervision, and hires the heavy equipment and whatnot.
Oh, lord.
first, fox is reporting now that it appears that these guys were corps of engineers contractors. let's hope not.
and from the description it seems unlikely, unless the corps of engineers is hiring giant squid and octopi. contractors generally have two arms, not eight.

I understand your response. Today I replayed the nightline presentation of Hurricane Isabele from last year. I will challenge all radio pundits to get it. They spoke only of the damn wolf! They can kiss my A**. People are responsible for their well being. Hopefully someone is paying attention.

Report on Fox saying may have been contractors, armed ..I doubt they were shooting at the police if true.

Nope. I do worry that the police may have jumped the gun and concluded that the situation was more dire than it actually was, because of lack of sleep, being emotionally overwhelmed, or just ordinary poor judgment.
By all accounts the New Orleans PD was in bad shape even before the disaster, and since then the psychological pressure of dealing with it has apparently been extreme. I think there are news reports on this site of some guys in the NOPD recently committing suicide, or simply walking off the job, and so on. It's a lot to take. People aren't at their best.
You may want to change the title from "thugs" to.....

Just announced on Fox that the Army Corp of Engineers stated that 5 of their contractors were killed by police on the bridge.
