Per AP on the FOX News Channel

NEW ORLEANS - Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six of them, a deputy chief said.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said the shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which connects Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

He said he had no other details.

No you don't get it.

They are dwelling on the negative....can't show the masses the good stories happening today.....so they recap the negative....and if people are just tuning in.....they think the convention center is still full of people.

... in the area across the bridge from NO there are neighborhood posses protecting from many people coming in their neighborhoods looking to steal.

Police authority in neighboring parishes are denying passage to all but credentialled people.

If six people died I suspect it was more than just shooting somebody who wouldn't stop at a checkpoint. Six people dead means a hell of a lot of bullets fired.

Not if were a sniper team of NOPD.

Again, it needs to be said -- WE DON'T HAVE ANY DETAILS, YET. And you obviously are saying this.

This thread's gonna be tough one. For all we know? Maybe the perps from other violent acts in NO were id'd, and the NOPD had official writs in their pockets after positively id'ing those on the bridge.

We don't know.

Even thirty years ago you had major beef going on between folks from"across the canal"and those in Desire Project and the adjoining neighborhoods.
Back then drama was settled by fists and rocks. The gangstas escalated the madness after crack came into the hood in the mid-Eighties and started packing lots of heat to defend their territory.
Miss New Orleans a lot.But I'm very glad I got out before the situation deteriorated to where it is now.

Then don't assume the shooting was right either.

I think they probably did the right thing and were being threatened or fired upon, but then again, this is the NO police. The same department with looting officers.

The fact that the chief did not say they were responding to fire makes me wonder.

Oh, they (the DU'ers) really believe. They are just insane.

Get a load of this. I normally don't post from DU, but if you want to see delusional typing, this is too good.

"I thought everyone had been evacuated. Someone posted about the power grab for Louisiana by Bush in the Washington Post article, why would they need to declare Martial Law and need all those ambulances and things if everyone is gone."

"They kept the Red Cross out just like Fallujah so there would be no independent witnesses and are sending a message to the journalists that they can be shot just like the ones who have been targeted by Bush's elite SS in Iraq."

"This is so horrible. When will Fitzgerald send in the Federal Marshalls or the Pentagon Flag Officers send in troops to remove Bush/Cheney forcibly from office."

See, Bush is an evil dictator trying to take over the country. Next he gets his own Saturday morning cartoon show.

We must never, ever let these people get control. They can't even think straight. Maybe the aliens will take them away.

Hey Mike, it's off-topic but thanks much for your stream updates on the Live thread !

I just can't stomach the media hysterics anymore, and the scanner traffic has been very informative the past couple days.
The true caring/confidence of the boots on the ground come through loud and clear, even to those not familiar with NO and/or radio jargon.

Good for them, I'd be doing the same thing, except when confronted by police or soldiers, I'd be placing my weapons on the ground. Sadly, in any war zone, mistakes will be made.

Apparently, the word has gone out to the left to make heroes out of the NO police. The media is talking about how wonderful they are.

The early stories I heard was that a lot of them left their duty station because of various reasons.

AFP had an article last night about the police complaining about the national Guard playing cards in the early day.

I think they are trying to make the NO police the heroes the NYC police were after 9/11. It's part of the plan to immunize the locals to criticism.

At least some of the worst are surfacing, they just can't contain their hatred. We've taken out a couple sleeper cells. I'm sure more will surface.

"Given the circumstances, carrying a gun on the bridge in NO is an act of provocation, and makes you an immediate suspect to those rightfully assigned to restore law and order"

Just reread the last paragraph of your post. THAT I agree with. Sorry for the knee jerk reaction.

Gotta step out AGAIN...will check back on this thread later.
