Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."
"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."
It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.
The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."
"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."
Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.
In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.
I wonder why the local officials didn't follow their own plan which was to use the buses to get people out of the area?
Have you noticed? The Left never offers any real solutions, just ugly rhetoric and finger-pointing. If they keep it up, they'll continue to lose elections, and they may not even exist as a national party in three or four more election cycles.
She's casting blame where it's not due, imo. Typical of those not willing to self govern and take responsibility where it is truly due.
"He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."
This is simply UNBELIEVEABLE. I heard, with my OWN ears, her response to Anderson Cooper. Saying that the President was coming and how that would make a difference, blah blah blah...that she didn't want to blame anyone...blah
I guess the DNC gave her the talking points before the show
Question, if I may, to follow up on your comment. Te conventional wisdom, FWIW, says that while many tell pollsters they think a female can do the job of president, it is believed that they are stating the PC position..and when they get into the voting booth, they won't vote for a female. I'm curious as to how many females thaink that way..Your take?
Mr. President, you're a Christian, but sometimes turning the other cheek isn't enough. Sometines you must smite your enemies, and these people are the enemies of America.
As a former Buffalonian, I will kick his butt.
Mary is a light weight NO princess, raised in a political family, cosseted at private Catholic girl's schools, promoted far beyond her fluffy head ever deserved. She is a powder puff posing as a US senator.
Kathleeen is a school teacher, married to the pres of USL, everyone's Cajun grandmother, promoted by La voters, who can never be underestimated enough, who think their Mommas would do a good job running the state.
These two ladies are both lightweights.
They can't ignore the rows and rows of unused buses. NOLA could've saved itself.
Put the police on the street! (I know old joke .... but true)
fyi, mod deleted for me.... : )
Thinking about this.
Is Mary trying to imply that the pres if after all the sheriffs? Trying to line them up behind her.
Sheriff Harry Lee did great outside NO. Other sheriffs are doing fine.
Mary is trying to line up sheriff supporters because she is afraid.
Boy I can't wait to hear Limbaugh tomorrow, I hope he doesn't burst a vein.
