Did any of you hear that 82 year old woman that Fox just interviewed over the phone?

She was amazing...still just sitting in her house..not really worrying...

Of course, since she is 82, she hasn't lived a "microwave" life!!!

Yea, old Wes did such a spectacular job at Waco. Anyone care to guess who the FEMA director was at the time?

Publicize that.

Newt was being Newt and positioning himself for the next POTUS election. Unfortunately, Newt doesn't understand that he isn't POTUS material. Do we thank him for 1994 - you betcha. Does he know his history - his knowledge is terrific. Would we vote for him for POTUS - probably not, unless the choice was between him and Hitlery, and I don't think he'll get that far. Newt needs to step back, take a deep breath, and get a grip. It would also be quite helpful if he would quit having photo ops w Hillary, quit constantly telling the MSM what the Admin is doing wrong, and give the Pres at least a little bit of support.

I just rejoined the thread, but about an hour or so ago on MSNBC the reporter was stating the NAACP & Jesse Jackson wanted a 9/11 type fund set up for these victims. Give 'em all a wad of cash I reckon.

Did anyone else see this?

Yeah, yeah I know, nobody watches MSNBC, but I like to keep a close eye on the enemy.

Try reading the book The Wisdom of Crowds ( by James Suroweicki; look for it on Amazon) and you'll learn why.

Cheers!

Mo1--in a lot of FR poster's minds, the worst thing would be an impeachment of President Bush (discounting physical problems of course)...

Well, if they impeach Bush, Cheney is president.

Within two weeks, there would be several hundred Ft. Marcy Park suicides.

But these would be genuine suicides, not staged.

Cheers!

What is your conclusion (synopsis) of what was the direct cause? Was it the material, the lack of upkeep, the over-whelming push of the storm, the Barge or all of the above.

Actually, all of the above "except" the barge. The first three were causes; the barge was simply a correlation.

I know the pull of the Barges and the undertow from swimming in a river that had huge barges come around the bend and take you by surprise. We would all get out of the water as fast as we could and watch the barge pull the water from the banks of the river. After it went by the water would recede. It was really scary when we were still in the water swimming like hell for shore.

Your example actually confirms my point. What you felt as a child and expressed as "the pull of the barges" was in reality the pull of the water displaced by the barge as it passed by rushing back in to fill the trough in the barge's wake. Ask yourself, did the barge actually touch you? No, the only thing touching you, that could exert a force, or "pull" on you, was the water.

One additional point: timing could be a factor in the perception of this incident. If the barge "just happened" to arrive and strike the levee at the same time the visible portion of the levee collapsed, it could indeed appear to an observer that the barge "smashed" through.

You mean Nagin's comments that were so cuss word laced...half of it had to be beeped out?

Or the one where he complains about not having Greyhound buses instead of school buses to evacuate people in?

LOL --- what a putz!!!

And to think that DUmmieland has even posted their support for him as a POTUS candidate!!!!

No, I mean Nagin's comments where he says he needs to get all his policemen & firefighters out of the city & get them complete mental & physical health evaluations because they are so traumatized....

Apparently they don't have either the treatment capabilities or available hotel rooms in Baton Rouge, so Nagin thinks an ideal place would be one with lots of hotel rooms - like Las Vegas.

LOL---

THAT one...he has had so many memorable speeches!!!

Last night he was being asked a bunch of questions about how they would be dealing with the dead people in his city, which he is Mayor of...and all he could answer was, "I don't know"...

Re: Las Vegas? I am sure he would have to accompany them...!

Great post.
I guess that was one of the points of the day, very little in the way of command and or control in NO.

Perhaps it's better I didn't hear it.

Newt seems to have forgotton he was run out of Washington in disgrace. Since then he has been playing patty cake with Hillary Clinton. Now I understand why Bush is kind to Clinton, it's his character. Newt's character is to use others to advance himself until his own weaknesses take him down.

Newt, imo, is the new Pat Buchanon for the Left. pat has completely destroyed his credibility as even a remotely credible spokesperson for the Right. Newt still holds a string, laregly because some conservatives feel, still, some affection for '94. When you're in the trenches together a bond forms.

Far as I'm concerned Newt is a sell out. Oh, he's bright. I give him that. Sometimes he even has a good original idea, though most of the ideas he promotes are those that are ingrained in the conservative movement. He just has a louder voice. But I wouldn't trust the conservative movement, Republican expansion, this country or my own back to him to guard.
