Technically, I think there is only one vacancy on the Supreme Court right now -- since O'Connor had announced that she would serve until her replacement is confirmed.

Yeah, that's true, and I'm actually wondering a bit whether she might be asked to occupy the CJ chair until that vacancy is filled. (musing out loud here).

He will be sorely missed.

Almost...

The story needs to be, "Here is what these people have done for themselves."

I hadn't heard about Rummy.

We're in the midst of a civil war. No shots fired but a civil war. This is going to be unlike anything in recent years.

Would they switch Roberts as Rehnquist's replacement and then find a new person to replace O'Connor or just find a new person to replace Rehnquist? I don't know how these things work.

Brian dated rhenquist's daughter?

Seems Brian did not want that much personal information out there and he glossed over it.

My prediction is that tomorrow morning, at least one democrat on a sunday show will say that Bush should ask O'Conner to come "back" to the court as Chief Justice.

They will couch it in words about how it will help continuity in this time of crisis, that the Senate has too much to do with the hurricane and the gas prices to deal with two vacancies, and that O'Conner would sail through.

Susan Estrich is just repeating the idea floated here about Clement, because of the New Orleans connection.

as MamaB said, "We'll always find 'em."

They out themselves quite well, don't they? It's one thing to disagree (we all do on some level); it's quite another to be posting disgusting, putrid remarks....what a lack of intelligence and manners they always show.

Susan saying the book author was going through the conservative talking points. Hannity trying to shut her up for the commercial.

The ones who support him will continue to support him and the ones who hate him will keep on. Sadly, the 'haters' don't seem to read enough to ever know all the facts.

I think the President should call all of the Democrats into a room with lots of video cameras and nominate Karl Rove as Chief Justice. It would be a very entertaining video!!

I'd pay big money for that. Wait, a reality show. Every week he suggests someone new. Tedd Nuget(sp?), Ann Coulter... etc. damn it could be cool.

The Chief Justice's legacy will be to leave behind a conservative court with these two appointments by the President. Awesome individual was the Chief Justice!

Interesting speculation. It's entirely possible (and maybe even likely) that we'll have three confirmation hearings in the coming weeks:

1. Roberts to replace O'Connor
2. Mystery Candidate to replace Rehnquist on the court.
3. A sitting justice (Scalia, for example) to become the new Chief Justice.

There would only be two hearings if the Mystery Candidate were nominated as the new Chief Justice. I find that unlikely, though.

Anger and hate are very unhealthy for your body and mind. They also have no faith, consequently they have no higher Authority to talk to for advice. They only watch Moonbat TV like CNN and hear real wackadoos spew their stupidy. I am beginning to wish that the All Kristina all the time was back. I guess it got boring because there were so many happy faces, and no killings, rapes, fires, muggings, etc.
