MAYOR CRITICIZED EVEN BEFORE LEVY BREAK. National Hurricane Center Director had to call Nagin at home Saturday night to plead: "Get people out of New Orleans." "The criticisms of Nagin came from above as well. Numerous officials urged him to evacuate the city, but he worried about the legality of ordering people out when New Orleans has few safe hurricane shelters. Also, National Hurricane Center Director Max Mayfield in Miami called Nagin at home Saturday night and told him: Get people out of New Orleans.
''I could never sleep if I felt like I didn't do everything that I could to impress upon people the gravity of the situation,'' Mayfield said. ``New Orleans is never going to be the same.''
When a grim Nagin issued the mandatory evacuation order Sunday, he said: ``We are facing a storm that most of us have feared . . . God bless us.''

This is the picture that can't be denied. The picture of those buses underwater. Not Al Gore, not Hillary, not nogginhead....none will ever escape the damage of that one picture alone.
You're a lot more optimistic than I am about it my friend. I still say the bulk of the US gets all their news from the MSM. People are amazed when I tell then things that are general knowledge on FR. You can't believe how many times I hear" I never heard that , really ! "
in CA home of the loony left ?
"in CA home of the loony left ?"
Yes, so keep me in your prayers :)
Laughing.
But I agree with your observation.
In case no one else answered your question yet, read this and be amazed: 1 YEAR AGO "Ivan exposes flaws in N.O.'s disaster plans" Mayor & Gov. fail to learn lesson. Don't blame me if your blood begins to boil.
Man I'm glad you posted this.
Because for all the Bush bashing allegedly going on, I've received the same anecdotal feedback.
Most folks I know think the Mayor first, then the Governor, are to blame for the initial failure. Not to mention that picture of those buses underwater which I can't say enough about. Pics being worth a thousand words and all thatl
Sure the guilty parties lined up early to place the blame.
What was Noggenhead, Elijah from Merryland, Sharpton, Jackson et all going to do?
Did you really think they were going to step up to the plate and admit the failure of their thinking? It's a form of damage control is all. I don't see Hillary or Teddy standing with them. They know it's not going to wash.
The President called him and advised him to issue an evacuation order. The governor of Louisiana mentioned publicly the president's call. In the Mayor's own words later he said "we may have a mandatory evacuation order by morning." The director of the National Hurricane Center called him as well pleading with him to issue the order. The Mayor said earlier that he was worried about the legality of issuing a mandatory evacuation order. You can imagine what the President's response would be if the Mayor mentioned legal hurdles during their phone call.
Why bother?
We took his city away from him.
He's the Mayor of NOthing
but as usual it is all bushes fault
Save that thing. It would save a lot of work when the indictment is written.
Give Klinton And Kennedy time..you'll hear their big mouths..Wait till congress ( useless to the man ) conducts an investigation into the hurricane..It will be a Bush bash fest and it will be on TV 24/7
Isn't that a good thing?
I am.
Because with each incident, be it a lying ommission-commission report, an attack on our country, now a huge natural disaster, each and every time a few thousand, a few hundred thousand, somewhere, get a new mindset.
It doesn't happen across the fruited plains that 285 million people suddenly "get it".
This hurricane is so very, very different.
Quite a few people in this country live near an area affected by such natural disasters. THIS is something that affects us average guys, whether it be a horrific tornado, a devistating earthquake or hurricanes from hell that have affected so many Americans through the years.
So many of us could be affected by such a thing and THIS factoid makes people pay attentions. Mothers across the land see the flood, the wrecked homes, the devistated lives. They worry about their children and the procedures to protect them in such a diaster.
Americans will be paying attention is what I'm saying here. Punctuated by the endless visuals and the stories to come about the days after the disaster. WE all understand the devistation of a life where EVERYTHING is lost.
We also all understand, just with a moment of thought, just where or who would WE look to for help during such an emergency? It's a LOCAL thing you understand.
We see the visuals of the army coming in, we see the helicoptors rescuing victims from roofs, no mind their color.
They can SAY what they want. We KNOW what we see.
Traffic jams on the bridge. They refused to let vehicles use some lanes coming from the other direction, leaving hundreds of cars stuck on the roadway. Stupid. They could have used some of those lanes to transport people out on buses.
"Going to take a nagin."
When I come back, I'm going to suggest that the Superdome be renamed the Naginbowl.
Thats great! Good work. :)
