Superdome Evacuation Halted (rich people first..please.
Fox News ^

Posted on 09/03/2005 9:23:57 AM PDT by Dr. Marten

At one point Friday, the evacuation was interrupted briefly when school buses rolled up so some 700 guests and employees from the Hyatt Hotel could move to the head of the evacuation line — much to the amazement of those who had been crammed in the stinking Superdome since last Sunday.

"How does this work? They (are) clean, they are dry, they get out ahead of us?" exclaimed Howard Blue, 22, who tried to get in their line. The National Guard blocked him as other guardsmen helped the well-dressed guests with their luggage.

The 700 had been trapped in the hotel, next to the Superdome, but conditions were considerably cleaner, even without running water, than the unsanitary crush inside the dome. The Hyatt was severely damaged by the storm. Every pane of glass on the riverside wall was blown out.

I have read ..somewhere...(so much info coming out)...that buses had been ordered (going through much red tape) by the hotel CEO's to get its patrons out...

..BUT! when the buses arrived, they were commandeered by, I think, local officials, and the people were left stranded.

Thus, going to the head of the line seems only fair to me.

"I dont like his pot stirring post and race baiting comments"

LOL, get ready cause the race baiting proverty pimps will be coming out of the woodwork for weeks and weeks to come. Happily it will cause a huge backlash against them or any that try it. Even soccer moms understand there is NO EXCUSE for looting, rape and murder. The poverty pimps are going to have a very hard time selling the "whitey made me do it" line. Or the "it's all Bush's" fault line. But like I said, happily they will try, and they will lose what little (middle American) support they have left.

If you get the tourists out you can put the sick in the hotel, right? But they are not doing that. Our local paper had a story (not available online) about another hotel half a mile from the convention center, where 31 staff are guarding the place and eating steak. There is a swimming pool filled with drinkable water and they are SWIMMING in it. (I know that bottled water is available to the refugees now but not in the first few days).

Sure you don't want a run on the hotel but if the city was under control you would put the ailing and elderly in there.

The people in charge are not assessing their resources. Martial law doesn't just mean holding guns on the looters - it means commandeering resources to help the most needy.

I am disgusted by the lack of planning and action. Sure people should look out for themselves, but you cannot expect 89 y.o. ladies with no family, who are just barely able to live on their own to deal with a hurricane evacuation. And you have to expect when you have babies living in a cesspit, they will get diarrhea and die.

If the Superdome and Convention Center were the refuges of last resort, they should have been stocked as such. You cannot expect a family with little kids and a grandma to walk there carrying enough water for a week, and a portable latrine to boot.

And of course they should have bussed people out in advance.

If you read Dr. Martens'

I think the name refers to the poster's shoes. The good Dr. seems to be a post and run artist - he hasn't been back.

He could have left them in the Hyatt, and cleared out people from the Dome who were suffering worse.

I would assume the 700 are short termers. Once they get out, they go home. The superdomers, they're stuck.

Exactly. The Astrodome in Houston is full. They are running out of places to put NOLA refugees. Once you get them out, there's no place for them to go

Contrawise, the tourists just need to be gotten to a transport nexis, and they can make their own arrangements to get home

There were interviews of the Tourists who were left behind by Hyatt and Hilton who had no transport, the hotel workers abandoned them. They paid 30K for busses to evacuate themselves and the busses were taken by NOLA officials and FEMA to evacuate others.

They paid for their own evacuation. Damn straight they should be first.

Dr Marten is posting from China and must not be reading the threads or have access to anything but the MSM.

Thank You!

I can agree that they were targets and should have been removed ASAP, but couldn't the mayor have found a way that wasn't such a slap in the face to people (who were not the thugs) who had been waiting so long. (A roundabout route? Maybe he could have had the police take them out in handcuffs so they wouldn't look like they were being favored?)

what? you really think this? this is unthinkable to me... but i guess it's important that we not be "politically incorrect."

I guess he could have done that. Maybe he could have darkened their skin too.

I'm from the school though that if you have to hide something maybe you shouldn't be doing it. Imagine what would have happened if he were caught.... Never mind he's a democrat and they aren't accountable. I forgot. I doubt this is going anywhere. Now if he had of been caucasion and/or a Republican, he couldn't run fast enough.

Hmmm maybe because the other 'guests of the city' were threatening to kill them and rape their women and already had done both to others

So they got the meat out of there before the ravenous animals tore them to shreds?

Read the stories of the Brits and there tales...the little 14 yrs old girl raped to death and the 8 yr old boy who got the same treatment?

Just a guess though

I live in Tennessee. I just talked to my neighbor and he's out shopping for a pump shotgun today. He and I agree we are this far (holding two fingers an inch apart) from total anarchy in the United States.

Anybody who does not have at least one firearm (and at least a thousand rounds of ammo) is a fool.

LA during the Rodney King riots. New York during the Crown Heights riots. New Orleans and surrounding areas this week.

Disaster and breakdown of public order can happen ANYWHERE, at ANY TIME, and with ZERO advance notice. In which case you need to be prepared to be ON YOUR OWN for a minimum of 3 days, and possibly a couple of weeks or more.

Besides firearms, everybody should have a multi-day supply of water, maintain several days supply of non-perishable food, and a comprehensive first-aid kit.

And also be prepared to abandon your "stuff" if need be, and concentrate on your life and your family, if sh** looks like it's about to come down

"How does this work? They (are) clean, they are dry, they get out ahead of us?"

A very good question.

Imagine being caught off guard. You weren't staying at the Hyatt. You had on your old clothes. You were tired, wet, dirty, in need of a shave and a bath. Maybe you lost your wallet, cash, credit cards. So they didn't realize that you really ought to be one of the priveleged few!

Anybody beginning to feel resentful???

I appreciate your concern, Issaquaking. I will try to use less irony so you will feel more comfortable. Here is a more simple version for you.

Mayor Nagin has caused deaths by not deplying 300-400 schoolbuses.

Mayor Nagin has used his office to take bribes to put others at the head of the line.

There. Happy, now?
