New Orleans Emergency Operations Chief Blasts FEMA
WSAV-TV ^ | Thursday, September 1ST, 2005 | Associated Press.

Posted on 09/01/2005 9:05:22 PM PDT by M. Espinola

FEMA is getting an earful from the man heading New Orleans' emergency operations.

Terry Ebbert says the federal agency's response to Katrina is "a national disgrace."

Ebbert says FEMA has been in the city for three days, but he says that has yet to result in any command and control. He says Mayor Ray Nagin has been "pushing and asking, but we're not getting any supplies."

The emergency chief says the evacuation of thousands from New Orleans to Texas has been "almost entirely" a Louisiana operation -- saying he hasn't seen "a single FEMA guy."

What is your overview concerning Iran's nuke threat(s)?

That my president knows what he is doing and can be trusted, thank God.

So he's gonna drop his support for homo-perves and abortion? Otherwise he won't get close enough to the nomination to smell it.

The President is not in charge of the national sex life.

The President IS in charge of the executive functions of the government, and if this goes on for another month, Rudy Giuliani will be the nominee of both parties.

The President cannot just take control of a State

Try reading the Militia Act of 1792 and President Lincoln's message of April 12, 1861.

He ceratinly can do that, and a lot more.

No he's not. By the way do you remember what group of conservatives is most active in the primaries?

Hint: It isn't the MOD's, the RINO's or the squishy social liberals.

The federal government can't barge into a state without that state declaring a disaster and inviting the federal government in. That's the Constitution.

"The federal government can't barge into a state without that state declaring a disaster and inviting the federal government in. That's the Constitution."

I fully understand that point. But if the local government calls for federal help due to a disaster they should be there, working together to save lives and combat any trouble makers.

It's the same governmental agency rubbish, local & feds not cooperating with each other - even after September 11th.

That's a good outlook.

From what I can tell, the local politicans in NO are completely incompetent. It seems that opened the Superdome as a shelter, but had no one to staff it or keep order.

Obviously, command and control are hampered by the destruction of communication infrastructure, and Police have been dispersed like everyone else in the city. But, in the end someone needs to take control.

Man you covered all bases and covered them perfectly!

When I watch or hear (radio) about large groupings of Katrina victims I hear what the victims are saying, not the soft soap sound bites from the robotic bureaucrats trying to cover their tracks.

One such group of some 1500, all of them waiting, waiting without food, without water, for days now, and they say nobody from any government agency as shown up to direct the route out, or with another group of heat suffering, famished victims, tells them to 'go there for buses' that never show up - there is something damn wrong.

"It's bad, bad, bad. And if you're looking for somebody to blame, take your pick, because they're ALL guilty, top to bottom. We are desperate here, and I don't know if the rest of the country understands the full extent of this, or cares."

It's real easy for some joker to make snide comments about 90 year old elderly people who could not evacuate because they did not have the means or the dough. Wise guys, schmucks know-it-alls as Long as they are not in the thick of it.

Let's see when the next disaster hits directly in the middle of their hometown, and this time there is a foot of snow outside coupled with 5 degree frigid temperatures.

"BUT, make no mistake, it's a Federal problem now, and they are not coping...or at least haven't been up to this point. That's just the way it is, whether you believe it or not."

It's going to be a rough winter for all of us, in more ways then one.

Amen to that. Giuliani may be the only politician of either party who inspires any confidence right now. The smartest thing Bush could do is make him disaster relief czar. I don't agree with each and every one of his positions, but I would vote for him and never look back. All those culture war issues that bring out the base don't mean anything when you've got forty or fifty thousand dead Americans.

True behavior of a liberal. What a crock!

I heard a reporter on the radio this AM talking about NOLA (Claudia Coffey, who is now in Milwaukee). She lived in NO quite a few years, and her in-laws are still there. She will be doing all she can for THEM; but as for sending $$ down to a general relief fund, I don't think she wants to.

She has done investigative reporting in the NO area. Some conclusions (paraphrasing): Every level of local politics is TOTALLY ROTTEN through and through, and has been for centuries. The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN POURING BILLIONS into the area for the levees, flood prevention, etc. THE MONEY HAS DISAPPEARED INTO THE POCKETS OF THE BEAUROCRATS. They make Ted and Tip and their "Big Dig" look like boy scouts.

She would keep her story notes at work, and IIRC, she says that they sometimes were not there the next day.

The kicker, she says, was when locals had to warn her that she would be KILLED if she reported any of it.

Reminds me of the "Wrath of God: Blizzard" episode on the History Channel. Bilandic (sp?) was a party hack so they gave him the mayor's job when Daley I died.

Then the next large snowstorm came. "But we paid this so-and-so to create emergency plans for the next storm!" When they finally handed 'em out to the people who needed them, they obviously had just been written; and they were fresh and warm from the mimeograph machine.

It was a total FUBAR. Needless, he lost the next election to Ms Byrne.

THIS IS NOT LIKE THIS EVENTUALITY WOULD BE A SUPRISE TO ANYONE IN A LEADERSHIP POSITION DOWN THERE!!

FEMA and and all others aiding in the EFFORT of provding relief need to Block out any further communication with these anti-American/Anti Relief effort anarchists now. Pull the plug on them. Their goal is to distract efforts.

Focus on the goal of providing positive relief, march towards the light at the end of the tunnel TODAY! Ignore the nay sayers, do not dwell on their words.

That's what I'm thinking....where is the STATE help? Lousiana's a big state....where are their volunteers, medical help, cops...etc from their OWN State? Seems to me the army and Coast Guard were saving and plucking people the next day! Faster than their own state.

I think I have finally figured out New Orleans' disaster plan:
1. Open up Superdome.
2. Call FEMA.
3. Sit on ass and wait for Feds to take care of everything.

TYPICAL DEMOCRAPS
