28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

"I wonder what they are looting. Maybe medicine and first aid supplies? Blankets?"

Think about what you are writing. Why do you need to loot medicine and first aid supplies from a hospital? Wouldn't you simply ask for help?

Earlier on CNN, one of their talking heads (talking out of his ass if you ask me) was trying to say that the race issue is that finally blacks have had enough of being poor, being out-classes etc in NO and are using this opportunity to show their displeasure.

Sorry but I don't know the guys name, got fed up with his Bush bashing (it's all Bush's fault) and the race crap and changed back to Fox News.

Then I will start lobbying that no taxpayer dollars should fight wildfires out west which cost us taxpayers between 100-500 + mil a year, just for the cost of fighting them, much less the cost of rehabilitating the place after the fire. in 40 years (the distance between the two hurricanes that were severe) it has cost more to keep the West unburned, I suspect than taking care of one of the most important ports in the country.

After all, it burns every year. So what if Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, LA, and other western cities have problems with it. They shouldn't live where fires can happen.

That's the same logic. And it costs you as a taxpayer a bundle to keep those woodlands out west.

He just did a segment on H&C.

Still st Super dome, tempers are edge.

Some troublemakers along with some very weak.

Noted a diabetic who is sweating profusely with no aid.

It sounds like she is third spacing. I have had some experience on that count with my mom.

According to my moms doctor the longest someone lasts without dialias is 7 days. Most die after 4 days. My mom lasted 5.

Why do you think the Rev. Jackson is going there? Two reasons -- one to get his face on camera, but two to make certain these people don't figure out that those trying to help them really ARE good people and DO want to help them... sorry if I sound cynical, but that's a sad fact.

BF sez: Praise da Lorhdddd, testify! Jesse "racecard" Jackson has come to blame ol' whitey.

We all know why JJ's there. Al would be there, but he's holding on to Shitty's hand.

Martin Savidge at the convention center - very dangerous. A NO police officers passes by in an SUV and does nothing, Martin pushes a mic into the car and he just says "people are coming" and just drives away.

this is really starting to feel like LA after Rodney King - this time, its the governor who seemingly has made a conscious decision to not restore civil order, to make FEMAs job harder.

I just got an email from a medical headhunter firm. DSHS is contracting with them to find physician and 'mid-level' providers with any valid state license to come to the hurricaine affected area for short, middle or long term rotating shifts.

"these people expect handouts"

Well, if my home was under water and all I had were the clothes on my back, I'd like a handout.

I asked this on another thread. How do you dispose of an entire city? A safe estimate would be that 85 to 90 percent of all structures will have to be razed.
That's going to be a HUGE pile of debris. Just how do you throw out an entire major city? That's way on down the road, but that's going to have to be addressed.

Prayers and support to those that was and is in harms way.

I'm sorry, but they just had a maudlin report about the convention center. The reporter reports that a Blackhawk helicopter touched down and dropped off a large amount of bottled water. MRE's also dropped off. The reporter than intoned "But it is literally a drop in the bucket" and finishes off sadly...back to you Rita.

Rita (full of energy), head bouncing: What a sad story.

And then to the next topic. Weirdly funny.
