"these people expect handouts"

Well, if my home was under water and all I had were the clothes on my back, I'd like a handout.

Uh....those aren't my words; why are you attributing them to me?

No, you don't understand. Anyone with this current situation would "appreciate" a helping hand, but many of us realize that we have to be prepared to take care of our own needs for at least a week in the case of any disaster.

None of us should *expect* a handout in life, that is programmed from circumstances -- which BTW -- I don't blame the people for; I blame our society which created this situation.

One thing we can all get from this....don't be depending on the government to help in times of crisis. It's too big for them.

Families, friends, neighbors need to plan now in case something occurs in your cities and towns. Who knows when the next crisis might appear?

It will be horrible in the cities (as we see now); it's best to be in smaller towns. We won't be able to depend on the government to help (and we probably shouldn't expect it anyway -- people lived for centuries with only neighbors helping one another).

It's also very important to be aware of your location, what type of neighborhood you live in. I know human nature can get out of control in any neighborhood, but at least try for the best situation possible. And I'm not talking about wealthy neighborhoods here --- some of the safest places will be out in small rural areas, away from the throngs of people.
