28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

My friend from Secret Service is being sent to NO. His wife is a little afraid that he is going to pick up some kind of disease while he is there.

Now why don't you go ask them if they would prefer to be where they are or in the Superdome.

And your point makes a good case for those who did not want to go to the superdome, where some attempted suicide, let's remember.

Thank you for the info. I was wondering about this very issue. Couldn't people who had no means have gone to a local police/fire dept or perhaps church? I they said they had no means to get out, I find it hard to believe they would have been turned down. (Yes, I know. Anything is possible. They could have been turned down.)

I figure our response to Beslan, and the rescue of the sailors a few weeks ago puts us on their good side. From what I remember the man on the street in Russia was very sad for us.

Maybe they can dangle him from one of the rescue helicopters, and he can shout, "Don't shot, it's me Jesse!

There's a thought (and if I were to complete it, I'd earn a one-way ticket to suspension).

>>Sadly "Snowball" would require resources that could keep a human being alive. Harsh reality will strenghten this child. This is definately not the time in these devastated areas to go wobbly on whether animals or humans live. Once things have stabilized, other puppies will be around. Nothing replaces a human life. Ever.<<

Thank You!

Will, those aren't graduate students, they're brainwashed zombies. I detest the idea that we're going to lose another generation to this leftist propaganda. The best thing you can do is laugh at them.

Good. Once he arrives in NO put him on a rowboat with two 6-packs of beer and a bible, then send him on his way into the flooded streets to preach to the choir. Of course that won't happen and he will be treated like royalty by the MSM itching to get a picture of him over the airwaves. Wonder what his opinion will be of looters and thugs stealing plasma tvs, drugs, guns and ammo.

Remember the MSM hammering away about the looting in Iraq after coalition troops took Bagdad. You are hearing exactly the same words now, with much more to come, bashing everyone except the criminals on the loose in NO.

On another note, am getting tired of some people in these threads pouncing on NO cops and firemen for a lack of response to the disaster. Many of them are in the same situation as others with families in dire straits. With limited communications, lack of support, and limited access to many areas of the city they have almost an impossible job to do, all the while trying to keep track of the fate of their own families and friends. You can be sure some of the cops and fireman who stayed behind to protect key facilites are gone forever.

That is good news.

Yes...but very selfish on his part. He had the means to leave and didn't. Someone had to risk their life to save him, while others who couldn't leave may die.

OTOH, airdrops and triage centers should be routinely trained into first responders.

Everything I have been trained to do, I have not seen done in NO.

I hear what you're saying, I'm thinking more about the child's emotions and pain than the actual life of the animal. Sometimes one thing can be the straw that breaks a camel's back in a traumatic situation, and that might have been the last straw for that child.

Did you hear the CNN reporter saying that the NO police are trying to "hold" their station--many memebrs of the police force have "deserted"--they told the reporter that most of whose left in the downtown area are real bad guys--and they have no respect of the police and just a little fear of their guns. Rocked Aaron Brown back a little!
