Shep showed a dead body along the freeway. How low can you go to grandstand? Things are bad in N.O., but he didn't have to show it.

If it were so easy it would be done. The best place for heavy lift Helos I.E. CH-53E's that can carry 16 tons is from an LHA and Two of them are on there way with CH-53s onboard.

Remember that LHA can produce water as well, and carrys fuel for these helos, if you can't fuel them it doesn't matter if you have supplies, they won't fly, also you need repair crews and fresh crews to fly them.

Today's break in flight ops is more likely due to crew Fatigue, then to any random shots fired into the air, the crews and the birds are tired, in need of repair and parts and might be low on gas as well.

There are limits to how long these aircraft can be flow safely and it is my opinion that they have reached that point.

and yes it is my expert opinion.

Does anyone know what the relationship is supposed to be between FEMA and state and local authorities, and the National Guard? Who is supposed to be in charge? After 9/11, Giuliani seemed to be in charge, with FEMA as support. But right now, no one seems in charge.

He's under basically the same conditions those people are so people need to cut him some slack.

I understand that the situation is dire, it's hot and muggy and frankly dangerous there. However, do you mean he's also had no food or water in 3 or so days?

Needs to be shown...a huge portion of this very country doesn't care of give a damn about what has happened down in red state country. Blue state media isn't even leading off top stories in their local news with it. Like 3-4 stories in.

Amazing to watch it unfold this week. I know people in NY and Cali. saying "those really aren't part of the U.S....they are like 3rd world states that people forget even exist"

The snobbery in this country could kill you. Shep needed to do this and they need to do a hell of a lot more. Show the reality...put a human face on it. The facts need to be revealed.

Shep's on Hannity right now, and he is very descriptive. He is painting a very stark and ugly picture!!!!!

including why, with our incredible engineering and technology skills, the levees weren't built to hold up.

Original specifications were to withstand a Cat 3 storm. That's what the ACOE built. Katrina was a strong Cat 4.

Shep on Hannity right now, describing horrendous condtions at NOLA. I think he is doing a pretty good job.

It is frigtening. Shep is showing the rest of the country just how hellish it is down here.

I agree with you on that point but I still think Shep is grandstanding and no different than the rest of the media. Always trying to stir up trouble.

I don't have a problem at all with what Shep is doing. He's trying to light some figurative dynamite under Mayor Nagin to get something done for those people on that roadway! It is truly unconscionable that they have been sitting there for almost two days in some cases with no food or water. It is as hot as the hubs of Hades up on that roadway and they have no shelter at all! They are not like the people in the Superdome, who knew they needed to bring food and water with them. These folks did not have the chance to get any food or water out of their homes before the flood waters arrived.

It's not like the city doesn't know they are there. The police are driving back and forth along the road. That's why Shep's producer was able to find a ride for that little baby yesterday. The city has full authority to go into any store in the city and 'requisition' supplies. There are enough stores in town that they could get food and water for those people. Even if it's just a package of crackers or Twinkies! Those folks won't care! Sure the National Guard is bringing the MREs, but those folks don't know that because no one is TELLING them anything! I couldn't imagine how frustrating it would be to be in that situation.

Shep is angry FOR these folks, and I don't mind that one bit. Someone has to be.

Ok, Shep just came up a couple of notches in my estimation!

Is there anything left after all of the flooding and looting?

And you are taking a reporter's spin on things? Excuse me, but I find that hard to fathom when it comes to Shep who has become part of the story not reporting the story. Has he grown a beard?

Basic journalism 101 is lacking on reports from Shep. His reports are going out nationwide and you are trying to tell me that no one has offered help -- sucker born every minute and this person is not one of them.

All you see and hear is what any reporter wants you to see and hear. You do not know what is surrounding that reporter unless they are truthful and they pull back from the shot. No one is going to convince me for three days no one has paid attention with no water -- does Shep have water between shots -- for what it is worth -- where is Fox News in helping. Never mind, that wouldn't make the story as powerful.

Local helicopters from local stations have been flying around and surely they would have seen Shep by now grandstanding which is exactly what he is doing right now IMHO. You are trying to tell me that Shep has had no food or water either for three days. Reminds me of the OKC Bombing when the reporters had all their makeup on just right but local reporters did not. MSM complained about the facilities of the OU Journalism school as well.

I'm hearing on the news that people are dying over there with no help... people are dying... getting sick, etc... There is no sign of relief there at all. Confusing.

That is the problem. Hearing it on the news. They are only concentrating on the bad. There is plenty of good going on, too but its not sensational enough to show on TV. God bless those people who are down there helping and getting no credit or recognition.

Shep: "This city is acting like a third world country!"

This whole scenario reminds me of Walker Percy's novel "Love In The Ruins," describing a modern Louisiana in a state of decline and half-assed civil war.

I believe his horror was real and honest. Let us all remember that Shep is from Holly Springs, Mississippi. He also went to college at Ole Miss. So, he is a local, in his own area, in and around where he grew up. I'm sure that this is more than a reporting gig to him. It is where he is from. That would effect all of us to some degree.

You are probably right. They should have realized that and put someone else to cover this story from ground zero.
