I am not sure this photo is still up at the Coast Guard site. But truly an amazing shot: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/user-posts?id=167975
The job of a reporter is to get information. The job of a spokesperson is to give information.
I'm most certainly not an infectious disease specialist - or anything remotely medical at all - but common sense is enough to tell anybody that there's a big health emergency just around the corner. I sure hope there's more going on to deal with it than we have heard about so far.
>>> Tell me, how do you think they are going to pump out the bowl without fixing the breech?
>>Once the water level in NO rises to that of the lake, which it seems to be doing quite rapidly, then there will be no forces of moving water to displace any subsequent breech repairs.
>You better tell the Engineer Corp to wait - Gretta just said they "might" start plugging the dike tonite with properly sized sandbags and rubble.
Sorry, spanalot, your boastful predictions of Tuesday night are no closer to reality as of Wednesday evening. Your grasp of what is "doable" in a short time frame needs a little recalibration.

Plasma screens float, game boys are used as paddles and jewelry is ballast. /s
Send it to Larry King and cc: Mary Landrieu,

How do you know they didn't? Don't assume people are willing to follow directions. Especially people essentially suffering from a state of shock. People who refused to leave or go to a shelter in the first place. The simple FACT of the matter is that unless you are a blind mute, if you were in New Orleans today, and in sight of Shepard Smith, the Superdome was in your view and less than a block or two away. I don't know why people didn't go there. But I don't know why they didn't go there before the hurricane hit either. Sometimes it doesn't take direction from officials to take care of yourself. Sometimes you have to put your mind to it, put one foot in front of the other, and walk yourself to the center of the rescue effort in New Orleans. Or....you could just sit on a bridge abutment in the middle of an interstate and wait for the world to come to you.
Yes, rw. And knowledge is power, and brings awareness and MUCH needed donations.
My kids might disagree with you on GameBoys not being survival items....
CBS did show one body being covered with a white sheet and showed video of a blanket covering the body of a man who jumped to his death off the I-10.
(and somebody on this thread said the I-10 situation is not as bad as those people on their rooftops in which the water is no longer rising).
Poppycock!
Since the Ga. Governor is talking about freezing gas prices,
he ought to come to NO and freeze the water, then the National guard could chop it up in pieces and haul it off.
Thanks for the info. Yes, I think things will be much better by morning, sounds like a big military presence is moving in, among other changes.
Ha. My kids would have to agree too... and God forbid I cut off their World of Warcraft. In fact, if I had to evacuate, the kids would load up the computers first.
Earlier today, a report from a resident of the barrier island, (Grand Isle?). They think all 1200 residents evacuated or survived, although some had to do so in trees.
It took this to get Greta out of Aruba.
We should of known the early reports were fabrications. Thanks.
Get the people out first, that can happen before we engineer a draining job.
After that, plug the levees, and fix the pumps. Fire 'em up and voila, 2 weeks later the city is dry. Seriously, the issue with the pumping system boils down to repair and installation. Add some dredges to move water, and the process will happen quicker, without the need to get the stationary pumping system working.
