President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

That guy at stuck at the convention center had a good point. How hard is it to send someone with a bullhorn out with the national guard unit. Just some information would help the situation. No it would solve the griping and grumbling, but it still would make a huge difference.
Yep....and Austin. First I heard about Austin.
I heard something about 1000 coming to Utah, but I don't know if I trust the source...was a friend of mine...
Maybe the thread was yanked because they're trying to keep most of the Katrina news threads on this live one? I'm just posting updates throughout the day from WWLTV.com.
This thread is on FR so it is 'their' business. Nobody owns a news story. I think you missed the post to "all" from the AM telling everyone to knock it off. That includes you.
I think you are refering to "Angola"
Not the most fun place to be but where they belong.
Wow..thanks- I'd not heard THAT little tidbit.
Wants a wallet full and tv time....period.
thanks for the update. I'm TV challenged. :-(
There were two hospitals that called local TV for help. They were running low on everything, already looted and scared. CNN interviewed one of the Docs and he was VERY concerned that they had been forgotten.
You believe Jesse, don't you?
I know about Angola, but I don't think that was it.
I was thinking 10s of thousands, but you may be right. The devestation is unbelievable.
Wants a wallet full and tv time....period.
yes...sounds like it to me too....and they are suppressing it.
WWLTV Confirms Oakwood Mall is on fire. Nothing about 4 Greta police officers being killed though. (as was reported earlier)
This could very well be but do not rule out there could be subversives in the area who are calling in false crime reports to add to the mayhem.
I could see anarchists or foreign enemies doing this to cause problems.
It would not be all that hard for a handful of bad guys to really disrupt relief efforts with spoofs and a few shots fired at rescue workers.
Our local NBC station had a Katrina story which was pointedly about blaming Bush for the mess in NO. The reason? Too much money and attention was given to the WOT, Homeland Security, etc.
This will be the big Dem talking point. The reporter claimed she had dozens of former disaster-relief experts who concurred.......but they literally did not name or show one single expert! PIGS!
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHhh
