President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I think only the "leadership class" really left - it appears that almost all the underclass people stayed put.
I think I better leave for a bit.
Folks, be back later.
Smogger....sorry for lashing out man. But look, you are making it sound like there is nothing bad at all going on in NO. You are denying everything.
It is frustrating.
I mentioned the e-mail not because I take it as the gospel truth, but because I found it of interest....not necessarily of news value. I read on here this morning about rapes and murders in the Super Dome, and that just seemed to lend some credibility unless he was just passing along rumors.
Pray for the situation in any event.
This guy is a piece of sh!t ....
Will, let's face it: you and I would have left.
National Inquirer subscriber, huh? :^)
Now they just need to get the media out of there so they can do their jobs. We don't need to see it. We just need to know it's done, IMHO. I would love to be a fly on the wall, however, when one of those gangs sees a Cobra setting its sights...
Isn't that just like a FReeper. In the midst of the worst natural disaster in our history, people still find a way to keep on FReepin'!
Glad your okay blam.
Hey! You wouldn't believe what I can do with a condom! Those things are great for waterproofing medicine bottles, bandaids, you can tape them over wound dressings to keep them dry . . .
Anyway, my folks had a lot of common sense as well as actual training. My brother and I are both in the Military, too so the learning never stops.
How are your dogs?
Yeah, good point, crowd control at this point would be impossible.
Lot's of good sound bites for the DNC though.
Section it off and make a penal colony out of it.
ESCAPE FROM NEW ORLEANS!!!!
** big hug and smile **
It's very nice to have such good news! I am very happy. Please let us know what you need. And we are sincere.
Hanging around with Bush 41 has done him some good, LOL!
The President told this joke a few months ago:" Bill Clinton woke up after his surgery in recovery and he was surrounded by his friends and family: Hillary, Chelsea, my dad."
I'm not going over the DU to check, but I would guess that that didn't make them happy.
thanks!
I can understand looting. But the shooting at rescue workers in boats and helicopters is inexcusable.
Just read the Governor has authorized/deputized law enforcement from other states and they are starting to come into the city or at least making their way toward NO.
I'm a big walker/hiker in the woods near our house and I would walk miles and miles a day to get away from that hellhole. And I'd do whatever it took to survive and get food and water - except kill people for it. Having never been in that position, maybe I'm being naive. But I just don't see me ever taking water from someone equally desperate at gunpoint.
He actually said
He's getting that straight off DU, MoveOn and Slate.
No he didn't!
Great fish recipe, but a Sauterne would be better.!
