I hadn't thought of that until I read your post, Sky Pilot.

I'd seen the Museum featured several times on the History Channel, too. The Higgins Boat seems like a natural for their "Man.Moment. Machine" series. The right machine for the right time.

Hope it's not damaged too badly.

Jack.

I have read at least one report that the D-Day museum was not too badly hurt at all The really nice museum at the USS Alabama, with some really cool aircraft displayed there, was apparently totally destroyed.

I just saw an interview on Fox of an 87 year old woman in one of these shelters who had no bed until 11 pm last night. She had been evac'd, but no one thought to care for her. 87 years old. This is pitiful. Someone got her a cot then, so she had some place to sleep with all the others there.

" Sen. Mary Landrieu's helicopter was taking off Tuesday for a flyover of the devastation and she watched as a group of people smashed a window at a gas-station convenience store and jumped in. "

She immediately ordered the helicopter to land and summoned her staff to hand out voter registration cards to insure these citizens could punch the democratic lever in the next election.

It was founded by Stephen Ambrose, in dedication to Mr. Higgins who designed and built those magnificent WW II landing craft.

Weren't these landing crafts a death trap as seen in "Saving Private Ryan?"

They were no more a "death trap" during WW II as any other piece of equipment. Gen Eisenhower credited the Higgins boat as one of the inventions that helped win the war. Also, without them our Pacific island hopping campaign could not have taken place.

What I'm seeing is disgusting, and it seems a certain minority are the savages behind this lawlessness. clearly less evolved than the rest of mankind.

I believe it is the Wefare State-of-Mind that is at work here. The poor of New Orleans have no idea what it means to roll sleeves up and help each other out..what they know is "Who is going to take care of me?..What is someone else going to do for me?"

It's horrible what I'm seeing on the television..but I'll give dollars locally..and to those Texas agencies or Hotels that are taking people in.

From the looks of things, perhaps you should take some brass knuckles, as well.

Really.

But, got news today from friends who left earlier, Border into LA CLOSED..no one allowed in or near New Orleans.

Do not know how this will affect our plans..but it will. Taking another route would be costly and time consuming from where I'm at.

Thanks!

I'd recommend everyone take a look at that post..has good information.

I like the idea of actually paying lodging for a particularly needy family..or providing gift cards.

At the cost of gasoline, driving our vehicles to Louisiana and back..plus the costs of our own food, supplies and shelter..it would probably be more costs efficient to donate in this manner.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

"Sending in the Louisiana National Guard or Guard units from neighboring states is pointless unless the soldiers are given orders to shoot looters on sight."

I have 0 compassion for the ones looting TV's, Stereo's etc... I say hang them with a big sing pined on them that says looters will be hanged.

How do we start a Nation Wide movement to boycott all personal automobile driving

Doing your part is important. But, I'm not sure boycott is what you mean, you can't boycott those who you are not supporting in one way or another.

For instance, I can boycott France by not buying French products..thus they loose at least my dollars..what will other private citizens loose if you boycott the "fact" that they are driving in a manner you feel is wasteful?

Of course, I can be reasonable. If you'd like to pay me, say, $10,000.00 to drive around town for a week..and then threaten to not pay me anymore unless I dont drive...and then boycott..I think you get my point!

You are very welcome. It is much more appealing to help actual individuals than to just send money into cyberspace.

Bush is asking everyone to not drive if you don't have to, so this is the perfect solution.

"That's on top of how many already called?"

I think the 10,000 is the first batch to be called, but I could be wrong. Indeed, if this is in addition to previously sent ones, the situation would be under control but it ain't. 10,000 is too small a number. We need at least ten times that number to stop the thugs from looting, robbing, stealing and shooting to our law enforcements.
