Astonishing Exclusive From Mississippi [hundreds if not thousands dead]
Paramedic Rescue Operation | 8-31-05 | My Favorite Headache

Posted on 08/30/2005 10:10:45 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

It is with heavy heart I write this...

I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.

He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.

Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.

They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.

The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.

The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.

More to follow....

I thought there might be a few hundred deaths. If it hits the thousands like it's beginning to appear, I'll have been quite wrong. I sure hate to see this.

"I understand that 80% of the people followed the order to evacuate. That means that there were 250,000 to 300,000 people who were left in New Orleans"

That would mean that the total population (including both those who evacuated and those who stayed) is between 1,250,000 and 1,5000,000. I assume he's talking about the NO Metro area, not the city itself., since Orleans Parish has only 469,000 residents according to the 2000 Census.

I pray to God that there were far less than 300,000 who did not evacuate, and that far less than 1/3 of them drowned.

When they get to the "epileptic hooker" part, do they call it whore-mongering?

Well ---- I don't see how we can realistically deny it!

"In Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian it looks like not a single house is left standing."

That's not how it looked to me. I looked at quite a few of the NOAA photos of BSL, and there were many houses totally destroyed, many seriously damaged, but also many seemingly intact and relatively unscathed. I'm not trying to minimize the destruction, but it looked like some houses further away from the shore didn't take a real bad hit.

I caught that. Of the 20% who did not evacuate, 'computer models' estimate 1/3 drowned. The numbers he used were horrific....claiming there were 200,000-300,000 left. 1/3 of those...

I heard it and was going to post but decided it was just sensationalist. I don't think the LSU professor was basing the number on what actually happened but rather on earlier models of what could happen in a Cat5 storm. I don't think that NO caught the full storm like Gulfport/Biloxi. Plus, I believe that the flooding in NO came on slowly and allowed people to seek safety (again, different from MS).

I like Hugh, by the way, but my opinion of him has gone down significantly because of this.

I did too, until last week, and I can prove it. But no more.

His browbeating a female caller who had more b***s than him when it came to dealing with irregular combatants was the limit for me.

I agree with you....I don't trust the liberal press as far as I can throw a stone.

See post #1064.

I think he needs to get a grip. Or look at photos of the devastation. Or actually listen to eyewitness newsies.

Hugh was reading some blog report about 2 medics riding into NO, with their Glocks & a shotgun seeing looters walking around w/ AK's, and I asked him why he'd take that post as truth and call this one "junk".

His response was "well these guys weren't talking about thousands dead."

I mentioned both the mayor of NO and Orlando Saleanes (sp) of FNC talking about morgues having reefers being used to house bodies. He blew both those off.

I did say and I do take this post with a grain of salt but after looking at the pictures and hearing about the devastation there's no doubt the numbers are going to rise and these numbers are entirely possible.

Hell Shep Smith just was talking about people running into their attics and being drowned.

Time will tell.

I've seen those crypt cemetaries, but I'm curious how they fared given the pressure that water creates. They could be dislodged. Many are old and water under speed and pressure could undermine their weight and solidity. It may be days before they know the effect upon those above-ground tombs.

According to Hugh Hewitt: Similarly, moderators at bulletin boards have to be careful to avoid allowing fear mongers to post junk without any sources whatsoever. There's enough dire news as it is. Rumors only add to the worry and fear of families that are out of communication.

You'd know better than to spout such foolishness if you were a real FReeper instead of a lurking bambi grazing in our garden for show prep Hugh.

If you're going to comment on us, know what you're effin' talking about, jackass.

In Pass Christian? I read on FR it was gone. I don't know about Bay St.Louis.

I wouldn't consider Hugh's comments today as one of the "very best".

Hugh is one of the very best commentators around. He goes farther in depth than most of his peers. He's a law professor and he has good insight. But that doesn't keep him from being wrong at times.

And he does it spectacularly.
So long as he limits himself to what he knows, he fakes things well.

As soon as he wanders away from politics local state and national, he's as dumb as a sackful of rocks.

He almost lost me when he failed miserably at pretending he knew anything about islam. I hung in there.

When he abused a woman for showing more courage and initiative on how to deal with mass-murdering killers in combat, I switched him off.

R.I.P.

I understand Hugh's objection. He wanted a report from a valid news source (ABC, FOX, AP, etc) rather than one from someone saying that he heard it from a friend. I just think Hugh overreacted big time.

"In Pass Christian? I read on FR it was gone. I don't know about Bay St.Louis."

No, my comments were only about BSL. Hundreds of homes totally destroyed, hundreds seriously damaged, but many apparently intact (based on aerial photos).
