The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

He really needs to go to Houston and take a military helicopter tour over the air and then back to Washington to oversee this thing.

I agree.

Come on, Mr. President....follow your instincts.

I know it is early, but this could be a key event in the run up to their next election campaign.

My assessment: If the people of Louisiana reelect that dud Blanco after this... they deserve her. Barbour has been great; honest, forthright and decisive.

I thought when morning arrived I'd see people crawling all over those rooves breaking into them to get the people out through the roof and yet what I saw was one helicopter swinging one guy from one house to another and then trying to rescue maybe half a dozen members from one house while across the street were more people on their rooves waiting to be rescued. There should have been an army people crawling all over there with axes getting people into dinghies. They need to get an army of people onto these rooves and get the people out of those attics.

I just kept thinking when they were being shown going into the Superdome that it was not a place I'd want to be.

Even 10,000 people stuck there under drastic conditions is a pretty hopeless situation. But 60,000?

Now they're talking about evacuating the Superdome, how long will it take to get them all out, and where are they all going to go?

Horrible mess.

They come into NO all the time it's one of the major cruise ports next to Florida and California.

I knew that. However, major hurricanes kick up silt and drive it up the river. Deep draft ships which could previously navigate the Mississippi, can "run aground" on the built up silt.

She said that a man at the dome on the 2nd floor calmly got out of his chair walked over to the rail and told the people below to watch out.

Old news - maybe six hours ago. I wonder what it is like for the junkies, including cigarette smokers (I am one) shut up in the Dome. Are people allowed to leave from the Dome under their own volition, or are they in lockdown?

I am talking about "I would walk/wade a mile for a Camel."

The logistics of this effort are going to be HUGE...

WWL just stated that police crews were running out of fuel for thier vehicles today...

You can send in ANYTHING you want, but if they haven't got gas for the boats and chain saws, and guys to drive the gas, and guys who cordinate the drivers and schedules, etc (you get the point)...
