The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Well exactly. They could have gotten ppl out of there before the hurricane arrived.
If and when Bush does go down there, the best thing he could do is orbit the place in Air Force One for a while and let the people see him. That would be a great moral booster.
Have you heard if there is going to be a casualty list anytime soon. Or is there a place that missing persons can be located. On 911 there were locations to post missing persons info.
Sorry to call you Man, consider it a "newbie" slight.
Good thing that they roped off the field to keep the people off the grass.
You're welcome. :-)
(I half expected to get flamed for posting a non-hurricane related picture. Well, the day is young...)
"Whare is the president?"
"Is he still in Crawford?"
The POS that made those cracks?
[Paraphrasing.]
But is this what you want to be angry
about? lol
FEMA in the rebroadcast said they are bringing in swiftwater assets, but are also working on setting up commands (ha!)to coordinate things.
Blanco said they are working on taking care of medical needs first before figuring out where to take the Superdome people to. The problem is that the rising dome is imperiling the Superdome generators.
Lower Plaquemine is rooftops, some 3+ story buildings visible.
A C-5 from Travis is bringing in some of the rescue assets that FEMA needs from CA.
To plug the breaches, they thought filling some sealand containers with dirt could be used.
They mentioned the 17th Street breach and the two industrial canal breaches in St. Bernard.
Slidell= NO East= St Bernard, same conditions.
The twin span collapsed in sections. Nothing in between some pylons.
The 5- mile bridge, the old bridge, still intact. But they don't know if it has integrity to take traffic.
Most camps are gone. Old Slidell, Mandeville, a lot of water.
The goal is to feed people in the shelters until they can be gotten out.
They refused to describe what else other than water is out there. They denied that it was "filling up like a bowl".
Shep had a good show today at 3pm
CNN just showed video of little children being placed in a rescue basket by USCG rescue. My god. Held my breath while basket being raised to chopper. Blitzer said the children safely aboard.
295 in parts of LA..
Yup, using this Natural Disaster to score political points is despicable. I will not regularly watch a network that allows it. CNN for breaking news only. Once the spin starts I am outta there.
Like those "delta boats" they used for the rivers in Viet Nam. Guns & all.
The river is higher. There is so much water on either side of it they may not be able to even see it. That was my question as to whether there could be a breech at the base of the levy or even underneath. Another FReeper explained to me in detail a ways back that it was indeed possible. The authorities there on the ground, according to Shep at Fox, don't even know where all the water is coming from.
How else does the flooding get higher than sea level, with the levees into sea level Lake Ponchartrain open?
I rode several hurricanes out on my 36' Westerly Ketch anchored in rivers plus one off shore.
Has the President spoken about this today?? I've been office challenged all day.
