The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Folks who were in the military or travelled to Mexico or Haiti 20 years ago (as I did) are probably wondering if their cholera inoculations are still good . . .
I was talking to a friend in the area this morning. We both lamented that this is what us natives always thought would happen someday. We just never thought we'd see it in our lifetimes.
Systematic looting of a Winn-Dixie now on WDSU. Big floating mattresses and large plastic containers used as floats.
sw
Haley Barbour wept yesterday and begged GW to come see the devastation. We're all weeping, and when it's safe, GW needs to do just that. For a couple of hours.
At least the looters have something to do. I'm sure they're gonna take all that stuff right up to the Super Dome & share it.
I heard Haley tell him NOT to come. When did he change his mind?
They probably could drop cases of bottled water on the way in to pluck people off rooftops.....there are a lot more boats heading into the area, etc
WDSU showed people using inflatable mattresses and orange crates to float stuff around and to move sick people through the water. Also people outside a WinnDixie trying to get food. Very sad.
I'm just shaking my head. WHERE do these thugs think they're going to go with this stuff?
That was so naughty -
you do know that the English have extra wisdom teeth;)
sp
yup they should do something its to visible to ignor what was up with that cop that just ignored here we go water or food
This is horrible! Why can't the helicopters deliver at least water to these poor people! Oh! Does that truck have water?

I think the German comment was meant to denigrate our coutry's policy on the Kyoto Treaty. My comment was a fairly sterile business observation.
LSU Hospital system situation...In Homa, LA - no water, power, sewage. 100 patients. Hospital in Boblusa (sp) same. In NO, two hospitals, 1500-2000 people with 300 patients (rest are staff and families and refugees seeking shelter). Desperately, short of raw materials. No fuel for generators. Obviously, also no water, electric, sewage. Life support patients have no generators.
It looked like some of them were coming from homes nearby. At least one stoop had a plastic tub on it, similar to the ones being used by the looters.
Maybe after this disaster when the BIG QUAKE hits we'll be prepared
