The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Two weeks is NOT long enough to reduce gas standards, imo. Disappointing but at least they are doing it, despite knowing the left will go ballistic.

No, he's got it down for 2 weeks. Let them see how bad it really is, which gives everybody time to start plans to come back online. They know darn well it'll be more than 2 weeks to come back online, but then they'll have the facts to keep the restrictions lifted for an extended period of time.

Go ahead let the libs scream in 2 weeks to impose restrictions, they'll show their hand...

While I was out today, I spoke with a young Nurse is has two little kids. Her husband left for the Gulf Coast with a Power Company caravan and expects to be gone for months repairing the power lines.

I heard that Little Rock Children's Hospital dispatched their Helicopters to pick up very sick kids in the stricken areas.

It's coming together, folks. Not fast enough..but still help is on the way from EVERYWHERE!

$3.70 a gallon?!

There's no way I'd pay $3.70 a f**king gallon for regular unleaded!

I understand the price of gas has shot up. We all expected it to.

But that strikes me as price gouging. If it's not flat out and out price gouging, it's close to it.

To judge people by their skin color is not only wrong it's darn stupid.

I heartily agree, and some of the statements I've seen regarding the looters comes *this close* to blatant racism. Like Easter eggs, bad eggs also come in a rainbow of colors...

CNN: What steps are you taking for security against looters.

Answer: We in the military are back up but first line in defense is local LE. If for some reason the level of the criminal threat exceeds the capability of local LE, then under command and control of the Governor, the military will work with local law enforcement.

You think? I can understand not knowing a death toll given the lack of communication, but holding back?

Not arguing, I trust your instincts. Like you, if they are holding back, I wonder why?

DHS is looking to get in MREs, food, water, etc, and the Superdome refugees will be taken to Houston. They will dewater and then check structures.

On looting, DoD said local law enforcement is for locals to do, with DoD as giving certain backup. If the criminal threat exceeds the capability of the locals, then the NG can work under the direction of the governor in state status to establish and preserve civil order.

The best explanation I read yesterday was this:

If the media says that there are thousands dead, they will have all sorts of people trying to get tothe area to search for loved ones. Right now, most people are assuming that the reason they haven't heard from people is because of the communications being down. If there is a huge death toll, we will have a national panic as people try to find relatives. They need to get more NG down there before they start announcing death figures, if you ask me.

The first line of defense is government. If criminal threat is to great for local law enforcement, then National Guard will be used to maintain order. The President is not expected to deploy US Armed Forced. Rarely used, but they say he has the authority.
