Katrina Live Thread, Part XI

The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Darn, of all days to be without a TV. I moved it into the Acting Director's office so that she could keep tabs on what was going on.

I have WWL streaming, but no FOX news.

There's no moral difference between the bastards jacking up gas prices on inventory already on hand and the bastards looting stores in New Orleans.

I just called a few apartments in and around Baton Rouge. (The phone circuits are crazy and it's hard to get through as is.) anyway... They have no vacancies open anywhere in town as of yesterday, and they recommend trying way further north or even out of the state. I'm trying to find an apartment for a few friends who are stranded. If worst turns to worst I can always move em in with family in BR. Peace ya'll.

Thank god. We're running out of the re-formulated fuel in Wisconsin.

But you know that Craps Doyle will continue to stick it to us with our special blend of the Algore Memorial Whittman Gas.

The volatility/sulphur standards (the ones that have been waived) are waived through 9/15/2005.

Here is a sister's report from her brother who was dispatched to Gulfport 2 days ago.

Just an update. We finally heard from Steve. He's tired & hungry. He didn't get to eat yesterday and hadn't eaten as of 6:00 this evening. He said there's no time as there's just so much to do. They were going to stop & eat within the hour. There are no hotels for them there, they're sleeping on the sidewalk. He said that he had tagged 40 bodies today. He seemed to think that the media was holding back on the death toll big time. I truly hope they have some sort of counseling for these search & rescue guys after this is all over with.

Tomorrow's mission for them is to go from basement to attic in every standing home, business, shed, etc. and pull out bodies

Pinging MFH to your post because it sounds very much like his info from the thread he posted earlier.
