I've a question that perhaps the levee knowledgeable here could answer.
I read on another thread that standing water against the protected side of a levee is not a good thing because it can soften the levee and cause failure. Could the water from the Canal St. levee, and wherever else it's coming from, make it to the levee on the other side of town and conceivably cause that levee to also fail, allowing the Mississippi into the city?
Not trying to be morbid, just wondering.
My guess would be oil or petrochemicals.

Can you add this organization to your list?
As far as relief efforts are concerned, allow me to put a plug in for this organization. These are some of the most wonderful folks on the face of the earth and their organization is out of this world. During Floyd, not only did they provide immediate relief with homecooked food flown in by NG choppers, they established long term rebuilding efforts.

Take care -- thoughts and prayers are with you today.
Jindal would have been much better at Governor during this emergency -- only one that is a straight shooter IMHO and grasp the situation.
I don't think so - did you ping me to it? If so, I'll go back through and look.
Palace Casino, Biloxi
New Orleans.
Various photos circulated yesterday of this store being looted. Now under water.
I heard yesterday a report about looting in BR by evac refugees. Any further problems?
thanks
The ramifications go way beyond that.
That sounds like a stand up guy.
I was just wondering about the house my mom grew up in on Upperline, near Charles and Napolean Aves.
The house was a block off Charles Ave.
Well built, with the basement on the first floor. Kinda on stilts. Like houses on the outer banks of NC.
The Aunts and Uncles are all sleeping in the family lot in Metarie, the house was sold, but I'm still curious, having spent time in NO and loving the spirit of they city.
I'm also curious about Fat Harry's. They were great people and watched out for my mentallly disabled Uncle Charles for years.
New Orleans
On WWL they just said looters are now breaking into houses on St. Charles. Bad enough they have the flooding which is devastating but now people have to put up with looters breaking into their homes. Disgusting.
how 'bout a description if you have one
He is. But a substantial logistical issue, beyond having suitable transportation, is "where do you take them?"
Biloxi. The gentleman is not a looter. Searching for his belongings.
