The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Tropical Storm 12
Look at the wire services -- the American AP calls it correctly, while the French AFP (Agence France Presse) plays pattycake with the truth.
Just another thing she can't deliver on.
Well the problem is getting the people to the cruise ship. And they would definitely need more than one I imagine.
The President declared many areas disaster areas before the storm hit, enabling prepositioning of supplies, aid..
Closed roads are preventing aid from getting where needed.
Unfortunately I live in California, but I'd be there to help you if I could....God Bless
I heard her say somthing like that today....."we're trying to figure it out."
I have had that graphic bookmarked, and linked it about six times on this site. :)
replaying it now.
I wonder if there were any cams left running on these hotel/casinos that captured this storm surge coming in.
A paramedic carries a pair of girls away from an Army helicopter after they were rescued from their flooded out home Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in New Orleans.
What did that hack say?
IOW, the contractor skimmed off the top and used cheap materials to fill out the road.
Oh no........This is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
I feel so helpless.
Right. Here we have refineries inoperable for some time. Now suppose another hurricaine hits the TX coast, and there go some more. Why don't we have any planning. Dems.
Even untreated diesel is often good for two or three years. I've used it myself. There is an article about a guy who successfully used 15 year old diesel after treating it with a renewer. Microbial growth can be a problem but you can treat that too. Gasoline is much more difficult to store without treatment, especially if any sunlight can reach it.
well after dragging the bread through the flood waters she will likely end up sick, anyway...

But, it's interesting what you pointed out at any rate.
Is I 10 passable to the west? I heard it was not. I read that only the bridge to the other bank was passable. And how you get out from there I don't have a clue.
Our family has three members in a home with three toilets. When we have a party (30 people or so) some have to wait. I can't even imagine what these people are going through.
It is so surreal. I have been following these threads since Katrina unleashed all this damage. I haven't posted at all in a couple of days. I've been doing a lot of praying and introspection about how fortunate we are here in Minnesota.
Not so long ago, I lived near the banks of the Mississippi in Minneapolis. Family and friends and I would often make the trek down the gorge with lawn chairs to sits on a gorgeous white sand beach and watch the Ol' Miss pass along.
Sometimes, paddlewheelers would pass by. Other boats had 'Port of New Orleans' painted on the back.
I'd dream of jumping on board and make the trip with them. I love New Orleans and am broken-hearted for the city and its people. Such a beautiful city.......
Prayers for all involved. I wish I could do something physically, besides donate to the SA, to help them. It's frustrating, to say the least.
