The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Good griefs! And what would be their mission? These troops are not trained for this kind of stuff. They should attack the water?
I'm glad she's on TV--she can't intefering with the operation of government if she's distracted by Larry--but anyone who truly cared about her would get her to resign immediately. It's sad.
Heh.
I almost choked when I heard her say that. Needed to rewind the Tivo - and she certainly did say that. You just know someone is going to use that in a campaign commercial. What a loon.
I brought up the issue with two retail employees today. One, a fast food shift leader in her 20s, was completely unaware of the situation (even that there had been a hurricane), and barely recognized the name New Orleans, from what I could tell. However, and to her credit, she was very attentive as I told her about it and expressed great concern for the victims.
The other person, a cashier in her 50s, was remarkably well informed on the subject. She had obviously spent time watching the news before coming in to work. She had things to add such as they should allow drilling in Anwar. She also pointed out the the Chevron station across the street had just raised diesel and premium to almost $3.00, even though the link here with NO is rather tenuous. This is in Washington State.
Wasn't that Holloway girl from Miss. or Alabama...???
Maybe her house has been flooded or destroyed...don't you have a heart? /s
Add Nadler and you've got a deal :-)
WHAT!!!!, she actually said that?!
Why don't you take your "happy dance" & do it somewhere else. Thanks.

If we could only drop Micheal Moore and Ted Kennedy in the levee breech we could save the city. Maybe those two could finally be of some use."
It might work.
Will Moore fit into the canal?
"I do not believe I could dam a 20 foot wide creek, of a three foot depth and a walking pace flow rate, even with unlimited funds and preparation, without unwatering the site. "
I guess you do alot of govt work. :-)
Seriously, we have a creek that is exactly 30 ' wide and 2-3' deep. It feeds a raceway that supplies a pond.
There is 3' of water to feed the raceway there only because of a dam made of bank run stone that we have to repile after every major storm. Its amazing what 3 men and a boy can do in one hour and as this is a trout production stream - it runs fast and cold.
Governor..what are you going to do ..Seh said...call for a day of prayer.
The Red Cross lady looks like former ARC leader Liddy Dole.
You know, those new-fangled floating buses.

Jeanne Meserve, one of the great talents at CNN.
The Red Cross lady is PR; Mary is a politician; Blanco is -- well, there is just no other way to put it: a simpleton.
> The levees overran because of water dumped uphill from them. Even water coming close to the top of a soil dam will start to force its way under and through. This is not the first nor the last time it will happen.
And it grows worse with each hour of saturation, and each atmosphere of pressure head.
