The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

"I'd like to reply but I'm on a one hour timeout."

Does this mean we can all have unrestricted one hour food fight! ???

They have some excellent logistics people just getting set up.

Yep, and the US Army Corps of Engineers have been mobilizing extra people since Monday to back up COE offices in the affected areas. This will not be a cake walk by any means.

Just a note on flooding and homes.

A flood will soak a house down but after a period of drying out, it can be rebuilt or repaired rather handily. This applies if thee is no current or wave action to move a building off its foundation. So most of the buildings in NO will be repaired without much trouble, as there doesn't seem to be much flow through city streets. They will probably limit boats to those that are small and have pilots that know how to pilot through flooded areas.

I know it looks bad, but it is a thoroughly doable situation to get NO back to normal after a drying out period.

It looks like the Corps might be slowing down the Missouri a bit. Here's the last gage site and it's looking like a 3 foot drop in stage between now and Sunday.

Never said they weren't trying to do that. Please do not put words in my mouth. A certain amount of order will have to be resored before effective evacuations in the neighborhoods can be implemented on any large scale.

I pray the NG gets in their quickly and does just that...the sooner the better.

Most of the choppers are busy with SAR right now. Lives first, property second.

The barges are having to proceed downriver very slowly as the Mississippi will need to be resurveyed before it is truly navigable - and there is a LOT of debris (including dropped bridge spans) in the water.

Does no good if a barge gets its bottom ripped out by a bridge span and sinks blocking the channel.

Do you know if the Alabama is still able to move under her own power? If so the only worry I would have is draft (I think wag it is somewhere in the 30ft range) Stuff the ship full then take the people some where. Florida? TX?

So the llama could end up,well, I don't want to say it. There are deer on his property so I guess he could take a deer out.

Must be one ferocious llama to attack and kill a deer.
