Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Seconded. If you're still in NO (or you have contact with someone who is), GET OUT NOW.
The "Crescent Connection" is still functional and clear, GET OUT NOW.
I didn't hear about dollar for dollar but did hear they have already given $1 million.
Office Depot is another one sending aid and taking donations.
Tulane Medical Center according to Channel 6 is trying to airlift patients to Charity Medical Center. Water is rising in New Orleans and threatening Tulane's generator.
Jefferson Parish (Metairie): All roads closed. Lots of people walking the streets searching for food, water... Do not use generators! The emissions are causing fires.
Per WDSU - the evac of NOLA hospitals continues due to rising water.
What a good human being you are!
I hear you! The United States of America! The greatest, most propserous, most generous, most emmancipating nation the earth has ever known! More people immigrate to this nation than they all the other nations of the world combined!
Galveston Island was rebuilt better than before, so will New Orleans be.
Where is Oprah and Bono, and all the phony bastards?
Thanks for the info. What is a coffer dam? I wondereed once the equilibrium is reached, how do you build a damn in the middle of a lake. I don't know nuffin about engineering.
I've had CNN on so thank you for that report from Gulfport.
This is the difference between the difficulting of cleaning up Gulfport and cleaning up NO.
The water is making rescue so much more difficult. The snakes. The things that can't be seen underwater.
Does anyone know if there are live wires underwater or is the electricity so compromised that the wires are no longer live?
"...and everyone is told to "try" to leave."
Anyone have any idea how they're going to get all those people out? Eleven thousand alone in the dome.
Wiki says Lake P. runs 12 to 14' deep.
WDSU: Louisiana State troopers have blocked all entrances into the state. Governor expects loss of life to be large.
Water still coming into NO. Lower 9th district is filling up fast.
Just heard on Channel 6 that the two main spans into New Orleans are GONE. Crescent Connection is the ONLY way out by land and they don't know for how long as water is rising.
It's a given the people of New Orleans don't have a deliverable address. And the backlog will be unimaginable. I guess they can "return to sender"..
It's going to be a huge mess, to try and explain to creditors where to send the bills, etc. Small thing? Hardly.

Unfortunately, I have to leave to go to work soon. I have to make money to be able to donate some to the recovery effort. Mind taking over my reporting spot?
I am using what appears to be an Akamai reflector for WDSU. Copy and paste the next line into the "Open URL" dialog in Windows Media (which works on Macs as well)

What do you mean "they don't know why the water is rising"? The Mississippi is sending rain down from the North and Lake P is rising as well. Shep should get out of the bars.
