Katrina Live Thread, Part X
Various ^ | 30 August 2005

Posted on 08/30/2005 6:51:27 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Yep, that sounds about right.

If a previous post on here was correct, Plaquemines Parish is pretty much toast.

I'll be it's hard to see where the river starts and stops now because the hurrican likely obliterated its current course.

As far as I can see, the NO plan was "It Will Turn."

Not at all. The National Hurricane Center et al as late as Saturday night had this storm centered on Mobile/Pensacola. There was an overnight jog to the west that re-oriented this storm on NOLA and the local governments reacted immediately Sunday morning calling for a complete and total evacuation.

It seems that the 'American Way' of late is that when bad things happen we seek someone to blame. I think that in this instance that is not only a waste of effort, but in fact counter-productive. The leaders who are in place, duly elected by their constituents, need and deserve our support to mitigate the damage and save lives. Save the blame mongering for a more appropriate time - and with the perspective of time you may find it is not appropriate at all.

I was shocked to see local ads since I live here in Norman south of OKC. Looks like they moved their feed to here. Wondered what happened in Jackson.

CNN: John Zarrella reports on satellite phone from a hotel in New Orleans - Water is still rising and is heavily contaminated. Situation is markedly worse than this morning. His hotel is near Superdome, where he can see those rescued from their homes are being taken.

The reply was to a question about whether they were Democrats or Republicans, and the answer was who cares. Not who cares about the people. I thought the same thing when I saw it.

You would think so. You would think everyone with a boat would be going down to pick them up.

that's really the only sensible option.
even so, getting to the river levee on their own might be damn near impossible for many refugees.

Last night Rita Cosby seemed somewhat perturbed that her Aruba reports (she is there now) were preempted by the hurricane but she PROMISED that Aruba would be up tonight. Any bets on what gets covered?

Give me a break PKM. My comments was out of jest. Nothing against Texas. I know it's not Texas or NM or AZ fault over what is happening with illegals. Besides what I said is basically true anyway.
