Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

That would be 21,000 out of 100,000 if my figures are correct.

..they have 10 different shelters...the dome is just one..

LOL!

She usually doesn't SOUND so worried tho . . . during the run-up to the election, one day someone was teasing her about HOward Dean being her father (it might have been Shep) . . . at that she cracked a smile. A disgusted smile, but a smile nonetheless . . .

all the media is in "stating the obvious mode".

Florida Power and Light is saying that power will be restored by FRIDAY.

For 90% by TUESDAY.

Never mind that FL residents pay 3% extra to avoid all this.

Gas prices at the pump will go up in NANOSECONDS, they will decline in time for the next ice age.

is it morally wrong of me to have a bag of hershey's kisses that my husband does not know about just in case the power goes out.

He's going to smell them when that wind starts howling outside...let's see how long it takes him.

Just checking in. I'm terrified for those folks! This storm sounds similar to Super Typhoon Paka that devastated Guam in '97. It had 175mph sustained winds with gusts up to 236+mph!!!

I admire those folks (FEMA, Entergy, etc) traveling to that area to be ready for anything that might happen so they can help are brave...they are heroes!

OIL has many end users...not just people who drive cars.

WINTER is around the corner...I am sure the people up north who rely on heating oil would see life and death issues as more important that people worried about their gas prices...

I'd go as far as VERY bad. It's pretty much only a matter of scientific degree at this point.

I flipped over to MSNBC and good grief! Chris Matthews is on the job tonight, covering Katrina. "it's a powerful looking ocean", he says, now going to talk to Mary Landrieu. I feel soo much better knowing Chris is now MSNBC's weather guy.

Just got back from filling up our car. Told hubby we needed to do it NOW. Gas prices hadn't gone up yet, but the man working there told me he's already expecting it - tonight. I paid $2.69. I have no idea what it's going to go up to with it hitting $70 in Singapore today already?

Will France pony up to rebuild the French Quarter? Will other Eurotrash ingrates send food and money? Don't hold your breath waiting...

Seriously, would you accept French aid if it was offered?
