If you or your family is in the path of Hurricane Katrina, if you would like to, please "sign in" here so that we can keep track of our people as this storm progresses, especially after the storm has passed.
Am looking for news about Moss Point, just north of Pascagoula, MS. Niece-in-law has not heard from parents since Sunday. They refused to leave. If anyone has any information about what's happened there, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi, I'm new to Freepers, my Mom is a BIG one. She advised I give this a try. My in-laws live in Diamondhead, MS. Right off exit 13 on I-10. Their names are Tom and Nancy Behney. Tom runs a pool cleaning business out of Bay St Louis, called Crystal Clear Pool Maintenance. I talked to them on Monday night and they said they were staying put. Does anybody know what kind of damage there is in Diamondhead? I can't get through to them, and they haven't contacted me. I've seen all the pixs of Gulfport and N.O. but Diamondhead is sort of in the middle close to N.O. If ANYONE has any info, please share it with me. Thanks so much!
See comments 423 and 429 of this thread. Good News.
Found reply 423, couldn't fine 429. Found 423 while I was waiting for a reply. Thanks so much. Please keep me up to date, if anybody knows or heres from the Behney's (pronoced Bay-nee), tell them to call us or pass on message via a freeper.
Thanks so much, did find 429 and I know exactly where that is. When we would come home from NO we would use exit 10 they live on Diamondhead Dr N. Is that close to where your dad is. I'm terribly worried mainly because my F-I-L has diabeties and heart problems.
sorry meant exit 13.

Well, we survived, and we are counting our blessings. We sheltered at Dutchtown Middle School in Ascension Parish. It was very well run, and I would really like to thank the Red Cross for doing such a good job keeping everybody safe and happy.
We rode out the storm, and left the shelter yesterday at 2ish. There was massive tree damage along the route home. We are 55 miles east of New Orleans. There are steel beams wrapped around trees this far away from the center.
We got home yesterday afternoon. 6 trees were down, nature had reclamed the pool. Part of the fence was leveled by a tree. But the house was safe. 50 fellow residents of Ascension Parish, last I heard, had trees fall on their homes.
We were told to wait two weeks for power, so we spent the day just cleaning up the immediate area around the house, and getting some ice, and more water. It was really hard to get news from the outside world. We had a portable tv in the car, barely getting reception, and the baton rouge stations would not give information about much of the outside world. They were extremely pissing me off, focusing on how the storm affected Baton Rouge, and when Baton Rouge would get power back, but that can wait til later.
My baby had massive diarreah this morning, and we worried that we weren't keeping track of the time on his bottles, so we sterilized everything on a coleman stove. The house was about 95 degrees easy inside, we were stinky and wet. We brought out the tents, put them on the drive way, getting ready for the long haul. I went back in the house to get batteries about an hour ago, and the lights flicked back on.
So we are here, alive, safe, comfortable after a shower, and very very blessed. The people of Louisiana are great, they are suffering, as are those in Alabama and Mississippi.
I do want to close by giving you all an indication of how devestating this hurricane was. We were so far away, but the damage here is quite extensive. No flooding, but shattered windows, steel, trees, live wires and we are truly lucky and blessed, and reflecting.
God bless.
Just checking in, and SO relieved to see your post!
I've been off line this week, visiting my sister in Northern ID until this weekend.
Have we heard from Askel5 yet?
Heartfelt prayers for all of you in the South! Stay safe and keep us posted.

Well, very short - but quite untimely - power outages kept interupting me trying to check in last night, but, for the record, I'm in extreme North Mississippi, about 20 miles west of the center-storm pass and the highest gust we got was only 44 MPH.
Got something over 8 inches of rain but other than that, a wholy unremarkable event here.
Great. So good to hear from you?!
God Bless!
Glad you made it through safely... :)
God Bless. It is doing my heart some good to see fellow FReepers checking in. Continuing to pray for all of you.
Spiff, we have not heard from my Father-in-Law yet. They are in Lutcher, and according to a post on WWL's website (TV/radio station out of NO) their area of Lutcher is mostly OK. I think they likely got through the storm OK, but he is 93, so we are concerned about his health getting through the aftermath.
If anybody has heard anything else about Lutcher please let me know. Their land lines and cells are still not working. Spiff, thanks for doing this!
