Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

They are indeed, and it's nice to be reminded of that every now and then.
I didn't even notice. I guess I'm immune to the language.
I just saw a FOX guy interview a woman who was waiting in line for 3 hours to get into the Superdome.
Are they taking fingerprints or what down there? Why is it taking so long for people to get in? Surely they don't have this kind of wait when people come for a game.
Yes, usually marble vaults.
The FOX guy on scene said yep - their belongings are being looked at as they enter.
What Bedlam...and I suppose once inside (I wish they'd get a camera in there), I guess folks will just hunker down in the bleacher seats along with their bags of belongings.
I think so too. Order will not be maintained as weather conditions deteriorate if those people are still outside standing in line.
totally agree. remember when Reagan was shot - who was it Harry Reasoner that cried on tv? Can't remember his name. It made it very special for me, it was comforting.
"No way to spin this as "blame anybody but yourself for not heeding warning".
You would think so, but something tells me it won't stop some from spinning anyway. They can't help themselves - they HAVE to blame someone, or else they won't be seen as victims. However, those in the Quarter are victims of stupidity, not the evil Bush.
It's tough not be at this point. It could very well be game over for the Big Easy and there's nothing any of us can do about it. We all know what's coming, and just the thought of it is sobering.
I agree with you on Shep but I have to say I would be slurring, stuttering, spitting too if my assignment was to ride this hurricane out in New Orleans.,,,,right before I told Fox what they could do with this job. :o)
GFDL track has shifted west directly on top of NO.
That bears repeating.
With the waves well ahead of the storm, the flooding could occur long before the eye of the storm even makes landfall.
It doesn't make too much of a difference at this point, I'm afraid.
Is she the meteorologist? I've noticed that too. I also think the guy outside the Dome that just interviewed that lady was touched by her attitude and request for prayer.
They're not just drinking, they're having their fortunes told...

No offense taken - I know that no one, including the guy from LSU on Fox, meant to be callous. It is something that anyone would logically wonder about, as had I myself starting yesterday when it became obvious N.O. was the target. Unfortunately, because even after 3 months I don't think I've still really come to terms with my Dad being there in the first place, my heart just feels like its gonna break into a thousand pieces here.
Sure is. And it makes you very sleepy. It's quite a dangerous situation. You could easily roll over and go to sleep instead of getting the heck out. Really,
Nothing racist about it, have you seen the pics, what did you see.
I just filled up my tank, too ($2.59 gallon).
