Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

Ship of fools, on a cruel sea.....
Your skin is flayed off in 10 seconds or 15 seconds...what's a few seconds between friends... ;)
God Bless.
What, exactly is his 'job' again?
The guy from LSU on fox just said they'd still be released. Above ground (our family tomb is high and in one of the highest parts of the city on the old metairie ridge) will still be below water. I am literally sick to my stomach.
"There are 64 Parishes."
is that like leave or perish!!!!!
Are the webcams still working?
Remember, one person doesn't respresent "all" within the crescent city.
It would seem Old Hickory only bought the city a couple hundred years more of existence...hopefully the storm will go the way that a Cat 5 did not to long ago (Can't remember the name of the storm but it stayed off shore, lost strength, drifted back out to sea to die.)
Dumb reporter on Fox in Orange Beach, Alabama - standing at the seawall in Alabama as the Gulf reaches the top.
We have that awful feeling too. Just turns your stomach seeing them. Praying that the Lord will watch over them.
Per WWL--
St. Tammanny (sp?) Parish imposes dusk curfew; hurricane still heading NNW at longitude 89.0 (earlier said if it reaches 90.0 then no chance for N.O. to miss a direct hit). I-10 moving decently; people urged to leave.
Core of eye to go over Orleans parish, 165 mph cat 5 ; 902 mb, levelling off--for now; to hit shore at Grand Isle, through east Orleans, then through Slidell; slight shift west.
Is that drop in pressure, from the 944 to the 902mb, is that what's referred to as explosive deepening?
The idiots who are staying. The historical treasures that are about to be permanently destroyed. The lives that will be lost. The economic impact to that state and to our country. The stupidity of the politicians.
It's just so massive that I'm having a hard time grasping it all.
Me, too.
I seldom cry, but I've been crying today.... thinking of what so many are about to endure... and so many of them children.
I wish he was interviewing people trying to get the Superdome instead of a bunch of drunks. The ones in the bars are content to do whatever they are doing. The better story would be the ones that had nowhere to go...except the shelter.
Good Idea...I am getting sicker by the moment...rain is starting to fall and all those poor folks are in those lines to get into the dome...Wish they would speed up the process. The meager belongings they have will be soaked along with them getting soaked. Just what they need...
What is taking so long to get them all in? Name, phone number, next of kin? This is crazy.

Got the confirmation earlier, but second opinions are always valued around here. ; )
Stay safe.
It was said TO Shep.
Why all the vile towards Shep here on the thread? He's just doing a job.
His show on FNC is great. Brit Hume has very high regard for him.
