Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. Currently, the forecast models are converging upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. Throughout Friday, the official track forecasts moved west, as Hurricane Katrina delayed making the anticipated northwest turn.

Good to know he is nearly finished with the chores. Prayers for a safe trip home.
Jeb does a wonderful job during a hurricane. He's forceful and not afraid to back up an evacuation order, even if it means that after the fact the evacuation was not needed. Better safe than sorry.
Actually, I think it is up to the local governments of each county, or the EOC of each county to actually inact evacuation orders (at least that's how it is here in Florida.)
I do remember Jeb getting on the TV during one mandatory evac and telling the folks that if they stayed, from this point on, don't expect emergency help. They were on their own. I thought he has always done a great job convincing people to follow evacuation orders.
I would hope so however I will still monitor,They predicted days ago the NO was in absolute no danger.
I just talked to Mobile Airport they said no problems flying in tomorrow afternoon.
Los Angeles, to arrive in Mobile at 2:43PM tomorrow.
I haven't heard anything from Ascension parish.
Agree, I think he will not order a mandatory evacuation for the city at all, just "forcefully" suggest it.
Glad to you could join us this evening.
I have been folowing this all day. Prayers for all in the New Orleans area, and for anyone who has to deal with Katrina.
Pity LA couldn't borrow him for a few days. Blanco doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
Eddie was a smart politician, he would have done things differently. Yes he would have figured a way to get rich on selling ice but he could at least BS his way around the press conference to make sure people got out of harms way. Blanko can't seem to string two thoughts together as to what needs to be done in order to save lives. She is way out of her league.
Oh please! You are so lucky to have Jeb!! In my opinion he is in training to be a POTUS!
very rare
arrival mid afternoon should be ok. Things are supposed to deteriorate over Louisiana later tomorrow.
"Bring PB and J sandwiches with you and pray it away."
Well, you found your next tag line!!
I don't doubt it. I saw her earlier. If there is a high body count because of a direct hit... it'll be because people trusted her.
I actually read something earlier today about 275 animals being evacuated from a shelter in NO.
Are you close to Lake Maurapas? That is a concern of mine...
The GFDL shifted slightly east, into near-perfect alignment with the NHC forecast track.
