I think I get the difference between flip-flops and sandals after googling some images.

I know at college a lot of guys wear flip-flops. Frankly, I don't think my feet look that great, so I prefer sandals with the short cut-off socks so people won't have to be exposed to the feet :)

I'd like to see everyone wearing a jacket, hat and tie again.

For me, it is pointy boots... Usually Justins, Tony Lamas, Abilenes, etc... and Converse tennis shoes a few times a week...

I wear sandals: Birks, walking sandals, water sandals, sandals with three inch heels, flat sandals, leather sandals, plastic sandals, but never flipflops.

I have hiked up mountain trails in sandals, crossed streams in sandals, waded along the beach in sandals, dressed for fancy dinners in sandals, worn them on airplanes, worn them to work, worn them shopping, and to church. Slides, glides, velcroed or buckled, adorned and plain, dress and casual, but not flipflops.

I have worn them barefooted, I have worn them with sheer stockings, I have worn them with some of Columbia's best hiking socks, with Remington socks, with Danskin socks, with trowser socks of a variety of types. White, black, grey, taupe, translucent and opaque, wool, silk, microfiber, nylon. And you can't wear proper socks with flipflops.

Hi All-

The number of people you see wearing flip-flops around busy urban centers is absolutely amazing. Why would one want their feet in proximity to broken glass, bum p1ss, dog shi+, garbage, grease, and rotting food? My vote is for sturdy and practical shoes for everyday wear except for walking across the sand at the beach...

I wear steel toed boots at work all week long. On weekends in the summer I wear sandal because my dogs need the air.

I don't even take my shoes off unless I'm going to bed or into the shower.

Me too. I have three young kids to chase around, so these days I wear sneakers all the time.

I came of age in the '60s. Sandals on men arouse unpleasant memories.

What about low-cut/no show socks?

I would never wear socks with flip-flops, but I do wear low-cut ankle socks with my sandals.

I heard this was "acceptable" fashion-wise, then heard it wasn't. But, I keep doing it since I spent money on the things and don't want to wear them with only my man feet showing. But, if it is really bad, I will stop. There are entire websites devoted to making fun of people wearing socks with sandals!

What say you?

Hi rwfromkansas-

Flip-flops with socks was very "in" for soccer players in college a few years ago, both male and female. We would slide them on to walk back to our dormitories after doffing our cleats. The look kind of carried over to the general population and is absolutely accepted.

I still do it around the house or in the aforementioned treks to the beach.
