Question:

Ignoring all legal issues....

Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay?

Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female?

Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?

The problem is not pedophilia when it comes to homosexual and heterosexual teachers but with adults who are attracted to children who have already entered puberty and are developing their adult sexual characteristics. While pedophiles may not always descriminate their victims by sex, the victims of adults who go after adolescents do seem to correspond to the sexual orientation of the adult. That's why the gay priests molested boys, lesbian gym teachers go after girls, some heterosexual female teachers have been having sex with male students, etc. Before modern times, children married and started having children at puberty. Our minds are not necessarily programmed to draw a line at 18 years old. That requires self-control and thought because our modern society expects adults to back off and not use their stature and experience to take advantage of people that young who don't always know how to make good decisions.

Predatory nature. I would be more concerned about a gay man being a chiled molestor than a gay woman.

I guess that goes to the question of what employers can fire you for. That's a topic for another day.

Barring a conviction, I would not fire my employees for engaging in non-mainstream sexual practices. Unless they were talking about it at work, of course.

I had a few gay teachers, and the only ones I had problems with were the flamers hateful towards the United States and straights.

I had a gay (male) teacher in 6th grade - best teacher I ever had - BUT none of us knew that he was gay; we only found out years later. He was let go by the district the next year, and I've always thought what a treasure they lost. This was in 1969. He was just a really inspiring teacher - Mr Flowers, if you can believe the name. 6'6" and about 400 lbs. (No one ever gave him any backtalk.)

However - and this is the important point - he NEVER EVER talked about sex, never referred to anything in his personal life, never made any inappropriate remarks or did any acts that would cause any child offense.

This was public school teachers with governemnt jobs and unions.

As an employer you would be naive NOT to fire someone just because they were not convicted. If a bartender is caught selling booze or cigarettes to a 20 year old agent who looks 21, then a verdict finds him/her not guilty; you still have your own liability insurance to consider so out they go.

We have not even discussed the fact that homosexuals have a lifespan in the low 40's. If a private employer can fire a smoker for a legal behavior, then recreational sex is just as much a liability.

If a teacher (Mr. Jones) tells his class: "I'm gay." He's talking about what he does in the bedroom. It's inappropriate. That kind of talk does not belong in school.

How is that talking about what he does in the bedroom anymore so than saying "I'm straight"? He could be attracted to men (the definition of being gay) and still never have any sexual encounters with other men.

I was talking about firing people for non-mainstream sexual practices. If an employee was arrested for rape, I would let them go, unless I thought they were innocent.

However, if an employee was gay or a swinger or whatever, I would not fire them (and would actually prefer not to know)
