Gay Teacher Question for Freepers (Vanity)
None | 8/17/05 | Dr._Joseph_Warren

Posted on 08/17/2005 7:58:48 AM PDT by Dr._Joseph_Warren

Question:

Ignoring all legal issues....

Would you care/object if your children's teacher was openly (not flaming) gay?

Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female?

Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?

There are several gay teachers at my childrens elementary school. I dont know if they ever announced this fact but it is apparant in their mannerism etc. I have heard children make comments about them. One of the teachers is well liked by the kids. I really dont think it matters to the children in regards to learning. We are talking children grade 5 and younger.

I suppose this would be less problematic with younger grades where sexuality would just not come up at all.

Oh boy are you misguided! You must not have any young children. Sexuality comes up everywhere in all grades. It is shocking how much little kids know about sex.

This statement is ludicrious. Nearly 3 sex partners a day, every day?

And you thought the teacher's lounge had curtains so students couldn't see them smoking cigarettes.

they were looking for Hepatitis immune people and were interviewing folks from the villiage

The Village in NYC isn't all that representative of generic homosexuals.

I'm sure some homosexuals have sex with dozens of partners, but you have to be realistic. Most homosexuals have jobs and obligations, just like anyone else. It's tough to meet those obligations if you are at an orgy until 5 AM every night.

It is my belief that such a teacher would not be able to REFRAIN from interjecting their social, political, and moral feelings into the teaching. Impossible......

I have had gay teachers. One of which I described above. He was the most flaming homosexual I have ever seen in my life. Bar none. Not once did he ever mention, elude to, hint about, or discuss his being gay. Never. Not all homosexuals are constantly on the prowl or engaging in activity for the purpose of legitimizing or pushing the lifestyle.

My chorus director is an openly gay male... I'm in his class, but I stay FAR away from him. As long as he knows his place and doesn't overstep his boundaries, it's alright with me.

This is a difficult questions, but after some thought here are my answers:

1. Yes. Children and Teens come to idolize their teachers. They often do not have the wisdom to understand why they connect with any particular teacher well and I believe that could become confusing for my child.

There was a time, when the whole "gay lifestyle" thing was not as in your face in our culture and if that was the case, I would not have any problem with it because quite frankly, it would never come up...and the teacher involved would have supported traditional values, even if he/she did not live them. But homosexuality and promiscuity is being put forth as a trendy, even superior, way to live. In addition, sexuality of all stripes is way too pervasive in every day life which could lead to confusion at a very young age. It is hard enough to avoid it in everyday life, without adding a new layer of complexity.

Therefore, in this climate, I would rather have a teacher that is supportive of my families values and religious standards.

2. No. The same principles apply, whether you are female or male.

3. None of the above. I would have absolutely not problem with an openly gay college professor. By the time people reach college, most of their fundamental belief system is established and they have a pretty good handle on who they are. I would not approve before then.

These are my choices and I others will see it differently I'm sure. But—we have chosen to send our own children to a private school that supports and affirms our belief system for many reasons, so this would not be a problem for us. For us, the sacrifice of paying for a private education that supports who and what we believe in is worth every penny. Hope that helps.

Your kids are more vulnerable than you think they are. Of course, maybe you just don't care.

No. I just don't think it is fair to pry into the private, legal affairs of teachers. Assuming that they are not discussing their homosexuality, drinking, swinging or stripping in the classroom, I would teach my children that such things are nobody else's business.

As long as the gay lifestyle, or ANY sex talk was never presented, I'd have no issue with it.

In a nutshell, ditto. I'm not all that hardcore about various social issues until someone rubs it my face or demands that I acknowledge that it's ok. Then I have a problem.

Many Conservatives probably feel the same, but the MSM never portrays us that way - we've always got to be the intolerant bigots whereas everyone supporting any out-of-mainstream social issue is open-minded. Alright, I'm walking away from that soapbox now...

Probably.

Would it make any difference if the gay teacher was male or female?

Yes. I'm a dad with a 15 year old son. I'd be more 'comfortable' with a female.

Would it make any difference if the gay person taught elementary, middle school or high school?

Well, depends on what they were teaching, but... IMHO, high school would be least harmful.

In the end, I believe that homosexuality is learned, so I would prefer to limit my child's exposure, especially in a learning environment like school.

BTW, both sons are into chicks, just like dad.

I totally agree with you! Where in the hell does any school teacher get off telling (teaching) children their personal sexual beliefs or behavior, against the will or beliefs of the child's family?

Great post!

I too think it is impossible in today's homosexual activist climate for a 'gay' teacher to not consciously or subconsciously influence their students toward sympathy and/or involvement with their sexual deviation. I have known a 'gay' high school teacher, way above average in the teaching dept. I never had reason to be concerned about their sexual lives. My concern in that school was about several political leftest teachers who disguised their communist/socialist leanings as compassion for the poor etc. It was a religious school.

Yes it would bother me, I would pull my child from the class. 1)Teachers are models and educators, this is not an acceptable life style or choice and I dont want a "role model" teaching my children that it is, when Im teaching them that it isnt. 2)I/my child doesnt want to know the what who or why you have sex.

Very interesting analogy...speaks to the fact that homosexuality involves behavior. Only difference I can see is that one is illegal. Hmmm...got to think about that one.

A conditional "No" I would not care.
Provided they do not make their sexuality an issue or bring some sort of agenda to promote their sexuality as being normative.

All teachers gay or straight should leave their politics and private lives at home. Teach the ABC's and 123's.

The problem nowadays seems to me that schools have become an idealogical battle ground for those with political agendas. Take the NEA for example promoting a boycott of a chain store. Public schools have become indoctrination centers for all things liberal. They've lost sight of their basic purpose, to educate.

While I am strongly repulsed by the gay lifestyle and their efforts to be accepted as morally equivalent to any other lifestyle, I do believe that gays are any not less qualified to teach math or English than anyone else. Sex-Ed would be(is) a problem though.

Morals and values are taught at home.

I don't think it would matter much, IF the teacher taught the curriculum and left politics out of it. Unfortunately Given the "drive" of the homo-agenda currently, I seriously doubt this could happen and we would have parents having to answer "Dad, what's fisting?" To 6 year olds.

What I think would bother me more was if the gay teacher was the same sex as my child. Gay men are not going to molest female adolescents and lesbians are not going to molest male adolescents. In fact, my cousin used to go out on "dates" with homosexuals when she was in college because she could have fun with them and knew they wouldn't demand that she "put out" at the end of the evening. Of course given current news, I think the same can be true of heterosexual teachers and opposite sex students.
