I'm considering getting transfered from my job and moving to San Deigo or Los Angeles (where my company has offices.)
Any Freepers want to give a Jersey girl some advice?
I've never been to Ca. but I've had it with Jersey. I know there are at least five Conservatives in Califorina (thats three more than NJ)- help me out people!
You read my mind. (take it from me, i live in California
I LOVE a man who knows his fighter squadrons.....are you dressed up like Snoopy in the Red Baron episodes?
Hey, it sounds like you hung out in South Central and then went to Bakersfield. We have beautiful places out here.
The drive on the coast from Santa Barbara to Monterey is absolutely breathtaking.
If you want to talk about natural beauty we have this little National Park called Yosemite! Seriously, I have been to 22 countries and 40 States and Yosemite is by far the most beautiful place I have ever been. No joke.
If you are in fairly good shape you can travel up north and climb Mount Shasta. It is part of the Cascade range and it is an isolated mountain with a 14,162 feet summit. The view from there inspires mystical, magical, and even God-like musings.
I will agree with you that the politics here "sucks" beyond belief but that is why the Internet was invented. Just remember, we have beautiful majestic mountains that soar beyond 14,000 feet, we have deserts that reach 130 degrees, we have beautiful beaches, we have world class wineries in the Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino Wine country, we have fabulous skiing, metropolitan cities etc, a cornucopia of farmlands that produce over 200 food and fiber products, world class universities etc. etc. And amazingly all of these things are within 3 hours drive. Fabulous.
I agree the politics and a lot of the people are hopelessly misguided but you can find conservatives out here.
I moved to the SD area in February from NYC - it's a different lifestyle out here, a lot less stress - I think it's the sunlight. The pace is slower, SD is conservative in some ways because of the military presence, especially in North County where I am. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.
Speaking as a small business owner who's been in L.A. County for nine years, get prepared if you move here. It's extremely expensive, the politics are so nutty I don't know where to begin, the state's teetering on financial ruin, and the illegals situation is a joke to many but to us it's real. It's real, and it's frightening. Even liberals with which I'm acquainted are starting to say, holy smokes, all our hospitals are like third-world countries and the schools are war zones. How did this happen? duuuuhhhhhhh
Other than weather, which IMO is better up in northern California anyway, I can't think of any good reasons to move here. Perhaps a job that pays some sort of astronomical fortune...but you'd still be better off finding a way to get a job living where savings are a possibility.
California is habit-forming. Some get to a point where they can't take it anymore, but it is usually a financial reason that they leave. The only thing that is crowded is the freeways. They are behind the times technologically in some ways, but at least the Internet is there so it's not a major problem. The vegetation is from Mars. What else? Oh yeah, Californians are both formal and informal at the same time, a formal informality.
Atlanta is an office park surrounded by a ghetto. No thank you.
"Los Angeles (city) is a third world country."
Think: "Blade Runner", the movie.
$400????
What the heck were you DOING? $400??????
"Vanity: I'm moving to California"
INSANITY: I'm moving to California
:)
San Diego.
Red Bank?
Home of Jay and Silent Bob?
Groovey.
I think so...
Laz would never gawk... he might drool a little though.
I, too, moved from NJ to CA. It was the best decision we ever made inspite of being surrounded by entertainment-type liberals.
We are in the Hollywood Hills...the home prices may be steep but our real estate taxes are quite reasonable compared to NJ.
