Vanity: I'm moving to California
8/3/2005 | Me

Posted on 08/03/2005 12:24:40 PM PDT by DesignerChick

I'm considering getting transfered from my job and moving to San Deigo or Los Angeles (where my company has offices.)

Any Freepers want to give a Jersey girl some advice?

I've never been to Ca. but I've had it with Jersey. I know there are at least five Conservatives in Califorina (thats three more than NJ)- help me out people!

Mexican Spanish is different than Puerto Rican Spanish.

San Diego - it is a much nicer city than LA and sports a large population of navy and marines. Be ready for heat! Be ready for expensive housing. Be ready to encounter our border issues up close and personal.

Believe it or not, there are conservatives in the state - even in the San Francisco area where I live. I see "W" stickers daily on my commute to work. Its just that the whack-jobs outnumber us right-thinkers.

You will be moving to a great and very beautiful state; my only suggestion is find a temporary place to stay and move very very close to you office.

Try Utah!!! We have everything that's good about CA scenery, mountains, etc. (well, unless you just have to have an ocean nearby.....) and almost none of the downside: a lot fewer leftist idiots here (though they do run Salt Lake City), little crowding outside of the Salt Lake valley, etc..... and a lot of good people!

You're already used to being surrounded by Blue-Staters, and you've already seen crazy politicians in action, so the question is whether you want to trade bad weather for earthquakes.

Los Angeles-San Bernardino for the southern part. Middle part was San Francisco-Vallejo.

I live and work in LA, and if I were you I'd move to San Diego. But generally, either try to live very close to work or out in the boonies. Don't let things get to you here, and it's a great place to live. You do have to be a little nuts out here though. It's a requirement.

I'm a conservative living in Los Altos (around San Jose), probably moving to San Diego one of these days. We need more of you out here! Help! :-)

Seriously, although everyone complains about it, I think you'll like it. I moved here from New York and never looked back.

Los Angeles sux, but Orange County is nice. It is conservative too.

San Diego is also nice, and more conservative than Los Angeles.

Other than that, housing costs might be a major problem.

Good Luck

I live in the conservative enclave of Newport Beach, roughly equidistant between both cities. Given your choices, and if O.C.'s not an option, go with San Diego. Great weather, less smoggy, BIG military presence, a lot fewer whackos, and its surrounded by a lot of beautiful country (not to mention it has the Pacific Ocean). You definitely want to live near your office though as traffic congestion there (as in LA) is really bad. Commute can be nasty.

Best of luck.

I escaped from NJ in 1984. Was returned in 1989 and escaped again in 1990. Now I'm imprisoned in the liberal jail called Chicago. But I look at it as a field assignment, only here to work and when I'm done, I'm headed for the hills.

To: DesignerChick; Brad's Gramma

Brad's gramma lives in So. California...she can tell you more up to date info than I, though I lived in Southern Calif for over 20 years and return for visits about every year or so.

There's lots of traffic, and one's day is planned around freeway traffic....

The weather is dry, much dryer than New Jersey/New York...but, if you're in San Diego, you're closer to the beach, so you'd have much more dampness.

The housing costs are astronomical.
