I'm considering getting transfered from my job and moving to San Deigo or Los Angeles (where my company has offices.)
Any Freepers want to give a Jersey girl some advice?
I've never been to Ca. but I've had it with Jersey. I know there are at least five Conservatives in Califorina (thats three more than NJ)- help me out people!
Having made the drive a few times, I like to joke that the Mojave Desert stretches from Las Vegas to Tracy. ;)
Thats Laz's problem!
Fugettaboutit then...
Sorry Laz...twas not meant to be....
I live in the Los Angeles county. I live 24 miles from my job. That distance is equal to 1.5 to 2 hours commute time. Throw in a sig alert and you are skrewed. Choose an area to live where you never ever ever have to travel the 405 freeway.
Everything is more costly in CA - the houses, gasoline, insurance -- everything.
This native suggests you move to Texas. ;)
If your car does not have the CA emissions sticker, it costs a retarded amount of money to register it. I knew someone who brought a car in from out of state and it bankrupted him for a few months. This was 7 or 8 years ago and I heard the costs have gone up.
and plan on paying 3-4 times the insurance premiums you are paying in NJ, sounds like we don't have anything nice to say about California ... depends on what part- South Orange County
Some Union 76 stations still have Full Serve islands, but not many others do. It is pretty much a requirement.
I am in Antioch, about 20 miles north of Tracy. Well, I will be back in Antioch soon...right now I am deployed in Spain.
Where do you come from that Tracy is your idea of paradise?
California EXPECTS you to pump your own gas. My 92 year old mother has only one gas station left where they will put the gas in for her. She has never learned to do it for herself.
Renting? I'd choose SD...
San Diego is great but housing prices are out-of-sight.
I just came from LA and SD, and I was RELIEVED to come home. LOL. This country gal hates zero lot lines and all that traffic. I have a 2400 sq. ft. house that is on beautiful land with mountains, oak trees, and fields all around, paid less than $150,000 for it, and could sell it in CA for $750,000 without the land. I live in the "technology corridor", so I have all the modern conveniences of life with all the old-timey joys. You can't live any better than this. DesignerChick, you need to move to SW Virginia. We have all the good stuff and very little of the bad stuff.
Let me say I also spent several days at Pismo Beach, and I enjoyed every single one of them. I still wouldn't want to live there.
I live in Contra Costa County here in NoCal. My rent is $1900 a month. That's twice as expensive as anywhere else I have lived.
Excuse you.
You are assuming I'm out of shape....
:-)
Can you smoke in California?
Seriously, get a new job. Really.
On the other hand, when you choose "Lazy" as your screen name and can't even get it together correctly, I just don't know what to say to recommend ya.
Good luck, tho!
If you end up in LA, let me know. I live near the beach & am usually available for happy hour. Just don't ask me to help you move stuff.
Watch it Buster!
Diss Fresno at your own risk!
Not only is it home to Victor Davis Hanson, but also to another ... errrr... a site that , well, I can't remember what; but it's important!
If you *have* to move to Southern California, San Diego is by far the nicer place to live climate-wise.
Otherwise I'd recommend Northern California (Sacramento and above). More rural, but much more conservative.
