It is the area that Zarqawi preached in a mosque....same area he jumped from the moving truck. See what I'm getting at....who knows what is hiding in that town.

With all due respect, I think you are delusional. I can't imagine how anyone in the U.S. can keep a straight face while santcimoniously proclaiming that "a free Iraq" (whatever the hell that term is supposed to mean in a Third World toilet) is supposed to vindicate our military presence there.

I experienced an IED close up last yearYeah, I have been out with EOD when they set them off. Haji usually sets them on the roadside and unless he gets really lucky they don't do too much damage (some of our patrols have been hit, but with only minor injurys-I have never been closer than 200 meters to one when it went off).
That's why I don't understand why they had 14 men in this one vehicle. Haji has to get lucky for the damned things to work anyway. Why concentrate your forces so that they might get really lucky?

it was inevitably going to end up in the kind of nation-building crap in a Third World sh!t-hole that this president was so strongly opposed to when he was a candidate in 2000Amen!

I have a different take. And I'm so glad to see it! Reading some of these posts make me wonder if I accidentally ended up on DU.
I can't believe people think that dropping a MOAB or just giving up and pulling out now is going to solve anything. (What? Did we get a bunch of French on FR??)
But then again, I have a hard time believing that anyone with any sense would vote for a John Kerry or an Al Gore.

It is a tough strategy in a tough part of the world... I understand and agree with your analysis. What I don't understand is that there are so many here on FR that don't get it!?!

I saw a reporter had been killed, but didn't make the connection that it was "In the Red Zone" author. I'm sorry to hear this. He was a true champion of the work being done by the soldiers in Iraq, similar to those reporters who championed our soldiers during long ago wars.
Thanks for pointing out to me who he was on a day when I don't have time to read anything on my own but must trust fellow Freepers for the highlights ...

Read the whole post. A free Iraq is a bonus and WILL seriously reduce the influence and capabnility of the islamic terrorists. They know this and it is why they are crossing borders and are killing so many Iraqis involved in the process.
The fly trap for the terrorists is also working and is a principle reason for us being there too. They are coming there to "fight the great satan" and they are dying by the thousands, probably tens of thoiusands at this point. That means they are not able to forment their plans and spread them selsewhere.
Noithing dilusional about that at all and I would appreciate your not introducing such vitriol into the discussion...it serves no purpose but to lessen your own arguements. What I am positing is merely a statement of fact. Our volunteers understand this and are fighting it out there with our enemies. God bless them for doing so.

You are right, but at some point, the Iraqis have to recognize that if they do not want their country to become a sink hole of terrorists activity or a pivot point of their organization, they will have to begin enforcing their territorial integrity. Borders MUST be controlled and Iraqi nationals have got to make a life long commitment to the fight against extremists in their country...that battle, I am afraid, will linger and will require constant effort form every Iraqi now living and maybe the next generation too...

Thank you for your service! We are all indebted to you.
Please ignore those on here who are imitating the French and belittling the efforts of our fine armed forces. Most of us know the value in what you're doing and appreciate it greatly.
The others have obviously fallen into the trap the media has set with their distortion and lies about Iraq.
