In the annals of feckless non-apology apologies, the one just served up by PA Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll scrapes the bottom of the barrel.
Check out the article below, and note this turn of phrase: "If my regard for his family's grief was seen another way, it is thoroughly regrettable."
In other words, what is regrettable is not her awful behavior, but the way the Marine's family saw it. Sickening.

Slain Marine's Family Gets Apology For Funeral Comments
POSTED: 11:44 am EDT July 25, 2005
PITTSBURGH -- After being criticized for attending a Marine's funeral, Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll sent a public, written apology to the man's widow on Monday.
The funeral was held last week for Staff Sgt. Joseph Goodrich, 32, of Pittsburgh's Westwood section. Goodrich died July 10 in Iraq.
Family members said Knoll came to the funeral uninvited, passed out business cards and made a remark about the government being against the war.
Gov. Ed Rendell said Sunday that the state does not have a position on the war, and it supports the men and women who are fighting. He also said written apologies would be sent to the family.
Goodrich's sister, Rhonda, told Channel 4 Action News that Knoll called and left an apology on her voice mail, along with her phone number and an invitation to call back.
On Monday afternoon, Knoll's office released a letter of apology to Goodrich's wife.
"Sgt. Goodrich's service was beyond the call of duty. If my regard for his family's grief was seen another way, it is thoroughly regrettable. The fact that you have been offended deserves and receives my most profound apology," the letter said.
I hope that family is demanding her resignation. What a witch.
Rumor has it Rendell and Knoll are not on the best of terms. In PA, the Lt. Governor is decided by election, not by the Guv's pick. If you want to drive a wedge in the PA Democrat Party, my advice is to send Rendell letters/emails/calls demanding her resignation.
Yeah, looks like she had Cokie Roberts pose for her official portrait.
LOL !
I wouldn't put it past him to pay somebody to throw mud at the coffin. He does those kind of things.
To write a letter to the Governor send to: Governor Edward G. Rendell's Office 225 Main Capitol Building Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17120
As if Pennsylvania hasn't been punished enough for all of the dead people in Philadelphia who voted for Fat Eddie the Teamster Thug???
Just fine, punish people who had nothing to do with what that senile bitch said, and probably didn't vote for her and Fat Eddie to begin with.< /sarcasm>
Are you aware of how many soldiers have from Western Pennsylvania have served, and continue to serve? Wanna punish them too?
Are you still active? If so, maybe some guys from the 28th Infantry Division (Pennsylvania National Guard) just might want to have a little "talk" with you MISTER Jackson, and perhaps adjust your attitude, in light of the fact that you want to take away their jobs so that they can't feed their families when the get back from their deployments in Bosnia and Iraq.
Sure you don't want to think about that some more?
for a link to email the govenor.
What an embarrasment. I live in PA. We have such wonderful elected officials. AT the top is Gov. Rendell, the "tax man", then this idiot, then our RINO senator, Specter. We are so blessed.
Fast Eddy's got more damage control to do.
Must be Madeleine Halfbright's younger, stupider sister.
Give me a break...I'm shaking in my boots. If you back off the hysteria for a second and think about it you would realize that if the DoD were to do something like that, which you should realise would be impossible, the hue and cry for the Lt Governors head would be overwhelming. When business feels threatened they get action.
As for the National Guardsman, I'd love to have a drink with them. They would probably understand the comment for what it was and not go off the deep end.
Knoll's office was the subject of a lengthy investigation by the FBI and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission into a series of bond issues in 1994.
Although Knoll never was implicated in any wrongdoing, the investigation centered on associates of Knoll with ties to the Democratic Party who earned consulting fees from the refinancings.
While she was treasurer, Knoll's office oversaw the refinancing of $1 billion worth of bonds to take advantage of lower interest rates. Some of the $2.6 million in fees paid to investment banks and law firms also went to some of Knoll's political associates.
On her Web site, Knoll touts her long experience in government and said "by establishing a strict code of conduct Catherine Baker Knoll has set the highest standards of professionalism, accountability and integrity for the Office of Treasurer of Pennsylvania."
One of her friends who benefited from the deals was attorney Patrick McCarthy, described by the SEC as a "close confidante" of Knoll. He wielded a great deal of influence within the state treasurer's office during her tenure even though McCarthy had no official position with the state, the commission reported.
In 1999, McCarthy paid $100,000 to the SEC to settle a civil complaint filed by the SEC over the 1994 bond issues while Knoll was treasurer

The liberals always say the same thing - they're not responsible for anything they do - somebody else made them do it. No wonder they don't want individual responsibility - they don't believe in it.
Thanks for the ping!

While I do not wish this comment to be construed as in any way, shape, or form to be a threat against the less-than-stellar personage of the mentioned Lt. Gov, I can honestly state without hesitation that had this horrid hag turned up during the last rites for Myself or any other member of My family only two words would have been spoken to her from the outset: "Get Out." If she had not then immediately left when so instructed I can guarantee you that what would have followed would not have required words at all, although some few single-syllable descriptors would most likely have been thrown in along with that horrid hags' thorough and unrestrained trouncing.
Becuase too few voters attend the 'primary elections' where they pick the crap you vote for in November---and the pols know it and use it against the people
