Today I Became A US Citizen! (Cheers!)

For the second time in my six years as a FReeper, I am posting with a glass of champagne next to the computer. And boy! am I smiling.

There are, of course, tons of details, but I'll wait for the questions, and please ask them!

One significant note (and most mortifying moment of my interview last month) -- I was asked what other names I used. He meant this one, and asked, "What exactly is 'AnnaZ'?"

"My alter ego?", I feebly suggested.

"I'm just going to put it down as your stage name," he said.

Of course I had no idea you weren't already a citizen. Where were you born?

I was born in Cuba to American parents but I still had to choose which country I wanted to belong to when I hit 21. It was a no brainer.

Now don't forget to register and to vote!!!! It's one of the really great things about living here and being an American.

It is the most hammered-in part of naturalization. There are voter registration cards EVERYWHERE.

(During the test even, the question: What is the most important right that citizens have? [Answer: the right to vote, all other enumerated rights are conferred on legal residents, native-born or not.])
