Excellent article about Jim Robinson - Showdown: The left vs. the Web

"I had not been all that politically active prior to President Clinton's election," Robinson recalls. "Yes, I complained about government and politics just like everyone else … but politics was not particularly high on my list of priorities – until Slick came along."

Robinson saw that the Clintons had brought a new and dangerous level of corruption to American politics. He could no longer remain aloof. "I knew that the newspapers and news media were lying and I knew that government had been encroaching on our individual rights and that our politicians were as corrupt as the day is long. I also knew that nothing would be done about it unless we the people somehow joined together to exercise our political free-speech rights."

Jim, you have done more for the conservative cause than almost anyone in America!

Thanks for the ping, Tonk.

lol! Me too. You know, I only found his site about 3 years ago (I pay also) when someone posted a link on FR. But I'd been reading his Byte stuff for 20 years. Sane, sober, constitutional, good interchange, very, very little invective, and some heavy hitters. I love it (and got another email published this week).

I tried to post a curriculum vitae of him once when I was recommending him here, but it's voluminous, and he evidently won't give one, despite my requests. He has truly accomplished more in his life than just about any other 10 people I can think of.

For about an hour and a half, the Freepers drowned out every speaker who attempted to take the stage...law-abiding, middle-class folks standing up for their rights.

Sigh. Standing up for their right to shut other people up? Aren't we proud of ourselves.

Yep, I wasn't too impressed with that either. I hate when the left does that and two wrongs don't make a right. That type of behavior denies the people speaking their 1st amendment rights. Whether you agree with them or not, they have the right to speak.

Aside from that I was terribly impressed with the article, gave some great insight into Jim Robinson and the Free Republic in general.

Ain't it though.

I get a little half smirk on my face when I know, they know, I know, I've beaten them. It's a true kodak moment. :-)

One of the few people I can think of, who truly deserve the appellation "modern Renaissance man."

And it might have been me, I have posted links to his site several times. I've also read his Byte material for ages, over 25 years in my case. Am also pround to get one of my items on his site (often material I've first seen here).

Yeah and the single best website software, tried by fire, on the internet.. for the purpose it was intended.. And a clearing house of everything and anything remotely approaching activily promoteing a FREE REPUBLIC.. instead of MOB Rule and a democracy.. even primitive democracys like those in URP and Kanuckistan.. but then ALL democracys are primitive forms of government..

With a searchable archive of precious threads of classic logic.. try threads by "Uncle Bill"..

SFC, thank you for posting this.

Jim, you know my admiration and gratitude for your efforts is boundless, but I must say it again. You have dropped anchor for a lot of people, such as myself (I grew up in a political thought vacuum), who were adrift in political seas, unable to find true North unless conservative sources and opinions were brought together, enabling the reader to sift, analyze, and decide where the truth is. The power of united, conservative action has been and continues to be cement poured into the crumbling foundations of our republic. It is no wonder the liberals hate this site and others such as this.

From the article, "I was the only poster for a few months," says Robinson, "but I kept sending my URL to search engines and trolled the newsgroups by reposting articles from the forum and eventually I picked up a few readers.' …" Way to go, Jim! I found FR via Drudge's former link, and a happy day that was.

Jim, you and your family truly have the shoulders of giants. Shoulders that have enabled so many patriots to stand upon and show the signal lanterns of liberty. FreeRepublic.com is the cyber worlds "Old North Church".

Bless you Jim.
Buck.

P.S. FWIW, my mother was Fresno native.

Yeah and the single best website software, tried by fire, on the internet..

I second your opinion. Not only is it easy to navigate, it is easy on the eyes. As a computer "newbie", when I first logged on, this site gave me the confidence to learn html. Jim Robinson deserves to be professionally recognized for his creativity in designing and programming FreeRepublic.

True.. often overlooked cudos to his credit.. and others involved.. The software is the heart, lungs and liver, the content of free republic is merely the face and pajamas,,
